For those saying he is a better winger, i ask you to forget what he is better at and ask is he a better fullback than Thompson.

To be honest I don't think the Sharks gave him a long enough shot at the role Geo

It would depend on what he wants money wise , is he prepared to take winger money until he can prove whether he is a good fullback prospect long term

Rumours have emerged that both the Cronulla Sharks & Parramatta Eels are interested in a player trade involving Josh Hoffman & Valentine Holmes.
Reportedly, the Eels will offer Hoffman over whilst paying some amount of his salary and the Sharks are willing to shed Holmes with the Eels taking on his full salary.
This would give the Sharks mountains of salary cap space for 2019 but they would also lose in my opinion, the games best winger. I also believe this deal may be stalled for some time given the recent injury to Josh Dugan as Holmes may be required to fill in the fullback role.

Yeah he stank it up in the early rounds of this year at fullback but he went alright there at times last year. It seems like he should go better at fullback than he actually goes…

He's a sleeper I reckon…
Defo hasn't rly broke through like he should have...
He should be a Gagai type but he's more of an Alex Johnston type.
I reckon Cleary would be the best coach for him. I think Flanagan is a psychopath and isn't doing the kid any favours.

I'd prefer this signing to Coote and others mentioned.
Realistic too.

Has he played fullback for AUS / QLD?

He wants out of Sharks to be a fullback elsewhere (got me written all over it). He's on 850k a year. Cleary don't pay overs, and no matter what anyone says on here, certainly won't guarantee a spot. He may offer him a shot a fullback but no guarantees.

Have a look at the structure Cleary was initially trying to implement with Tui at #1 and Reynolds at #6\. A lot of the fullback playing direct out of hooker and sniffing around the ruck for offloads. You're telling me that Valentine Holmes isn't the perfect fit for that? Would welcome him with open arms to play #1\. Ivan Cleary has a special way with players. Only need to look at Brooks, Thompson & Lawrence to see what he's been able to do in 12 months.

Well Anon's first call was right - media to get wind of this story pretty quickly.

I'd take him, no question he's a fine addition to a backline. Question-mark over fullback but theoretically he has the ability.

One thought I had however, we brought over Tui to play 6 months 5/8 then ostensibly be in line to replace Tedesco, and that hasn't pan out in 2018\. As Val Holmes, I would wonder, if I was indeed leaving to be a fullback somewhere, Cleary has already shown he will put the best-form person there, not the highest-wage or highest-profile.

I.e. are there other clubs who might need a class FB and Holmes be more assured of having a decent crack at the spot / lack of depth to easily replace him?

As to rumour of a possible trade with Eels, that does not fit the FB MO at all. Eels have Gutho, French and Hayne who all consider themselves FBs, and would need to move Corey Norman on to promote Gutho to 5/8th, to then give Holmes a spot at the back. Hoffman has never played FB for the Eels? Seems like a lot of horse trading to me.
