Wests Tigers are saddened to learn of the passing of former Western Suburbs player Jim Cody.

A tough and mobile forward, Cody played for the Magpies for more than a decade after making his first-grade debut in 1962. He passed away last night, aged 79.

As a 19-year-old, Cody played in the 1962 Grand Final, and was involved in an incident that led to the dismissal of St George forward Billy Wilson.

Jim represented City Seconds in 1963, another Grand Final year for Cody and Western Suburbs.

A Strathfield junior, Cody served Western Suburbs well, playing 159 games in the top grade through until 1973.

Jim then had great success as captain-coach in country areas such as Nambucca Heads, Griffith, Goulburn and Coffs Harbour.

Wests Tigers would like to extend its condolences to Jim’s family and friends.

Tough no compromise forward. RIP

I remember watching Jimmy Cody play at Pratten Park. He was as tough as nails, gave as good as he got and never took a backward step. Played miles above his weight.
Gee we've lost some good ones from the Wests side in the last year or two - Noel Kelly, Peter Dimond and Tommy just to name three. What did they all have in common? Tough buggers.

Is that correct? I remember watching John Heyward when he first came into grade at Lidcombe Oval. He was a dashing 5/8 who probably didn't live up to his early promise. Another one gone.
Yea sadly its true - I saw Jim Cody play when i was a kid and my condolences go to his family - John Heyward was playing with Wests in the early 70's - too young to have passed on. Another Magpie man who also played with Balmain and Norths passed away this month - Vale Tim Murphy.

Murphy & Heyward were playing when I first started following the Magpies... Cody before my time but read a lot about him.
As someone else mentioned your mortality really comes to the fore at times like this

Condolences to all friends and family of all three
