Vale Noel 'Ned' Kelly

Damn, the respected, revered old-uns are disappearing. When I was a 5 year old my dad took me to see Magpies play at Pratten Park and Ned Kelly led from the front. He is in good company up there.

If only the current mob had half the ticker and spirit of these guys.

A great bloke.

Obviously well before my time but I understand he was very well respected among the Magpie faithful.

Been an ordinary year for the Magpies losing Summons and Kelly.

He was well respected among all the Rugby League faithful CB.

Saw Ned play many times for the mighty Maggies at Pratten Park Ashfield and was lucky enough to be at the GF in 1963 when atrocious refereeing cost Wests a win over a St George side boasting Reg Gasnier, Johnny Raper, Changa Langlands, Sticks Provan and a host of other legendary Dragons. Arthur Summons, another Wests legend we lost recently, was the Maggies captain that day. A truly great hooker (from a time when hookers actually competed for the ball) and a legend in every sense of the word. Vale Ned!

One of the real nice guys. He had a small goods run and he supplied stuff to a pub in Milsons point I used to drink at. Always had time for a chat and a laugh.
A friend of mine had his first game for the magpies in his late teens, he called Noel Mr Kelly, anyway Ned said to him, mate if anyone belts you let me know, first hit up my mate gets absolutely smashed, Ned said to him who hit you, my mate said not sure Mr Kelly but might have been the lock. One minute later the lock is ona stretcher and never seen again.
I come from the Tigers side of the merger, but had so much respect for Ned.

RIP Noel

Led Noels Kids to some good performance as player coach for Wests Magpies in the late 60s.
Magpies hart and soul ..... I really thought I would ever see his passing whilst still alive.
Very sad tonight ..... Vale Noel Kelly .... I will miss you.
