VALUE FOR MONEY OR CHEATING ???????

After watching the roosters rebuild there side in the last couple of weeks, i ask myself are we at the tigers getting value for our dollar or are the roosters rorting the cap.
And before every one jumps on the bandwagon that they have released players just look at what those players were on compared to what they now have and what they will be on.
As for the tigers we let ellis, heigho,ryan and about 4-5 other lesser players go and what did we get, Anasta and two average forwards.
How to hell do they let average players go and pick up SBW, JENNINGS, MALONEY, AND NOW ODONNELL.
Or is it that they are better at doneing deals than the people who are looking after are stock.
Does anyone else feel we are been short changed. :deadhorse: :bash

It is about spending your money wisely.

We expected to lose one of Heighno & Beau but lost both.

There was nobody in the marketplace to justify splurging on at the time except maybe Jennings but that was all an up in the air mess.

So instead we have promoted a few younger guys to the NRL squad and are investing in our future that way.

If the WT went after LOD I would have been supremely dissapointed, we need to get beyond our past of paying overs for past their used by date grubs

I was going to suggest about $250k all up but after adjustments it is probably in the middle somewhere.

It isn't a massive amount but the reality is we have a lot of junior talent to try and hold on to and that is why I am not overly concerned about not chasing another signing.

Kite had possibilities but he was adamant the only way he was leaving manly was if the club levered him out and that is not th fallout you want the next year.

Anyway I look forward to hearing reports on how the trial teams go on Saturday evening

Its a pretty good scenario to sign players from ESL… Basically, you can strike a deal where the ESL pays the players Salary for another 12 months while you pay them as little as possible.

Nothing like a check from a 3rd party benefactor to ensure the ESL Club is well compensated?!

Its about 'how' you manage the Salary Cap... I'd say the Tigers are very poor [more like being too honest] with the Cap.

We need to rort the Cap where-ever possible… Stuff the NRL!

Very sneaky and would work if NRL and SL teams had partnerships like that, but would only work if the payments from the ESL team to the player continue but are not counted as part of their ESL cap.

Hypothetically NRL-ESL partnerships could make caps meaningless, but then so are third party deals for teams with big markets to themselves.

The Roosters had a clean out at the end of 2011, and didn't bring in anyone of note for 2012\. LOD is well past his best, and would not be on a lot, Maloney, Jennings and Sonny would be on reasonably large contracts, but who else there is on big bucks? Outside Pearce, Minichiello and Kenny Dowall, there isn't many established stars in their side. They have 4 players in their side with origin experience (2 who won't play another, 1 who might and 1 who probably will) and a couple of kiwi internationals. Their line up on paper is hardly one that screams over the cap, they would have been well under in 2012 and the cap itself has risen considerably for 2013.

Lets hope the roosters lose some of their young guns like Cordner and Guerra trying to buy a premiership

Anyway they only have SBW for a season and if the stories are true they've paid way overs for him

Roosters might make the 8 but won't win the premiership They are like the Manly of the 80's a team of stars

We were never going to be able to pick up any quality players when at the time we had no surity of who was going to be our coach

But you never know , maybe mid season a reasonable quality prop may come up and we might have enough room to make a play at them

Yeah I'm with you happy to hear how our fringe players go to see if any can make a push for the top squad

IMHO, we shall first look for local talent, remember that our NYC and SG Ball teams were champions last year and BRET in the finals :slight_smile:

Why are we so inpatient and so obsessed with expensive players? in the process, we reject our local players without even giving them a chance in FG.

The only thing we can say right now is we have big cash to spend for the 2014 season as there are heaps of our plays off contract but for now we just have to lock up Robbie Farah then will see what happens next. And mabe there was a plan when we let Beau and Chris and few others go so we can sign big guns for 2014 season lets just see what happens but all we know is we do have cash for next year. And mabe we were planing to sign stars this year as there were heaps of good players on the market lets see what will happen during the year i guess.

We didn't win a comp because we built up a war chest and ravaged the other clubs rosters. We invested in our junior talent at the time and built around Benji, Farah, Fulton and Gibbs. Throw in a few solid signings of Payten, whatiuira and Elford and we had a champion team.

You should be rewarded for bringing in your own juniors, and the young kids in Balmain and the West should know that they can achieve first grade with their local club.

Another point is….just because the cap goes up does not mean you automatically have that money to spend. The Roosters and Dogs do but we are not as rich as they are.

Do you want the Roosters to buy our good juniors so we can then buy them back at five times the price when they are established first graders?

It can come down to a catch 22 situation, you can have the best young talent coming through your system but you need them surrounded by elite quality players for them to proceed to the next level. The amount of kids that make it from the junior level right through to the NRL is very slim. I remember Michale Withers being the player of the year in the commonwealth bank cup but took years to make the grade in a weak Balmain tigers team.

Iam happy with the way the club is headed now, but I think their are a couple of positions they need to bite the bullet and spend big in the market place if and when a player is available
