VALUE FOR MONEY OR CHEATING ???????

The Roosters basically paid 75% of maloneys deal out of last years salary cap…..it is possible, sounds suss I know but apparently its legal.
They pretty much signed no one the last year or two, which allowed them to splurge now...they have 25% of maloneys gig this year, Penrith are paying a portion of jenkos gig, Watto explained the benefits of signing from the ESL and SBW would be backloded to buggery

From the team that ran out in the 2010
Linnett
Leilua
Perrett
Carney
Ryles
Paea
Myles
Conn
Anasta

They have replaced Myles with O'Donnell, Carney with Maloney, Braith with SBW, Linnett with Jennings and the rest with junior talent (Cordner, Takarangi, Sheck, etc). I can see a balance in the outs/ins, you also have to remember Penrith are paying some of Jennings 2013 wages, and by 2014 Pearce and SKD will be closing in on long serving player concessions.

my guess is there are random bags of cash left around bondi.if they have ppl willing to pay, are willing to run the risk and can get away with it, oh well… good luck to em. just makes it all the sweeter when we beat them.

I bloody hope we do, cause i'm sick of them having the wood over us and copping it every year from some of my Rooster mates at work.

Can you explain how SBW would be backloaded to buggery if he has only signed with them for 1 season?

Simple, he's signed for 2 yrs not 1

Where has that been made official? No use just going on speculation

Sonny Bill Williams has agreed to a second year at the Sydney Roosters, with another handshake deal ensuring the former All Black will stay in the NRL until the end of 2014.

It was widely considered that Williams would depart the Roosters at the end of this season and return to rugby union in New Zealand.

But there’s a new twist to Williams continuing his rugby league and boxing career.

Instead of playing in the rugby league World Cup on October 25, Williams is likely to wait until November before officially announcing his 2014 deal at the Roosters.

The delay would allow Williams to continue his boxing career, with plans for up to three off-season bouts.

Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan confirmed the club’s intentions to keep Williams beyond his current one-year deal.

“We want to make him comfortable playing rugby league and comfortable wearing a Roosters jersey first,” Canavan said.

“We want him to be excited about continuing in rugby league, but that is something that has no time frame. Hopefully he wants to stay.”

Nothing has been made official (until "maybe" Nov this year) so it is still just speculation as far as I see it.
Good luck to the Rorters if they wanna take SBW's word on a handshake
Maybe they should give the Bulldogs a call and see how noble good 'ol Sonny is when it comes to a SIGNED contract, let alone a handshake deal (even though he came good on his word for this season, plenty of time between now and Nov).
So for now we will just speculate that he is on a heavily backloaded deal for 2014\. Too easy.

I believe Sonny Bill had a handshake deal with the Roosters 12 months ago. All the speculation back then lead to his current contract. He'll be at the Roosters in 2014 and to answer your original question the back loading will take place in 2014

They might not want to pay the big bickies for Williams in 2014 if he doesn't do anything spectacular this year.
My tip is he will struggle to look anything more than an average first grader.

The article you posted said that "SBW will wait until November before he officially announces the deal". So it ain't a done deal until then.

Going by your logic Thurston is gonna be a bloody rich (not to mention busy) player next year because there is speculation he will join the Panthers, there is also speculation that he will join the Bulldogs and finally there is speculation that he will stay with the Cowboys. He will sleep well after playing 3 games per weekend for them all.

Typical drivel logic on your behalf. Did you read why he's holding off till November? because he wants to get in some fights in the off-season beforehand so has no commitment to the NZ side for the World Cup. Not the most noble of acts but it is what it is

We could go on about this forever, so to cut all the crap out you seem very positive that he won't be at the Roosters in 2014, i'm positive he will. If he does sign all your logical bs will be have been for nothing

 Yep…and if he doesn't then it wont.
Do you honestly think the Roosters are gonna be allowed to tell the NRL salary-cap people "we are paying SBW only $200,000 this season because..ummmm...IF he signs on to play with us at the end of 2013 for another year we will pay him $900,000 in 2014"? Do you think the NRL would agree to such a back-ended contract situation on a if or maybe? That is my argument. No need to wet the bed IMO

But he will, take it to the bank

Okey doke, if he does sign with them or he doesn't, my point is how can the Roosters get his contract backloading approved by the NRL if he hasn't signed an official contract for 2014? What happens if he gets a career-ending injury this season ala Simon Dwyer? What happens if he wants to do a runner overseas to go back to union or take up boxing fulltime?
I just find it hard to believe that the NRL would take the Roosters' on their word on a handshake agreement that they have supposedly had with SBW.

The roosters were breached for not providing details of SBWs deal, not because they went over.
He had a handshake deal- suss yet again - because his agent scumbag Nasser isnt NRL accredited - suss again but its how it is.
Hes recently shaken hands apparently on a second year…it was always the intention for 2 years but they went with one initially to get it thru the audit - simplify it all.

I never knew nor heard about the Roosters being breached for the SBW deal for 2013\. I just can't fathom how they would be able to pay him unders this year on the "hope/wish" that he will honour a handshake deal for 2014 and be on a backloaded contract in that occurence (TBH he ain't the most honourable or trustworthy bloke to begin with). Surely the NRL would need a signed official contract before they would even look at this proposal?…..then again it is the Roosters we are talking about.
The whole thing seems very very flimsy to me

Tell me about it…..their cap and signings have been scrutinised a fair bit on sports radio ive listened to over recent weeks, plenty of people asking how why when where???
