Video Ref

I am sick to death of them.

And Refs Call, what a joke, isnt that when benefeit of the doubt is ment to be awarded?

But i am just sick of the majority of calls going to the video ref, then watching 20 replays to get to the decision that everyone knows it is. Soaks up to much time.

Benefit of the doubt is basically for a 50/50 decision, or something that can't be seen due to a missing camera frame (like one frame the ball is up and the player is in, the next frame the ball is down the player is out)

Refs call is for something inconclusive, such as a player being in the way of a camera. The cameras could not provide all the information required so the video ref cannot give a definite answer.

But if it comes back refs call, then he has enough of an idea to make a decision on the spot, but defers to the video ref for five minutes, then he makes his own decision anyway. I can handle benefit of the doubt, but not ref's call. Just make a bloody decision and stand by it.

thats what i mean LukeH, refs call ahs gone back to the bloke he said he doesn't know in the first place he might as well have just made a call on the spot.

But my main point is the time it soaks up. No refs have the guts to make a decision themselves these days

No…refs will usually say they have an opinion, but would like to see if the VR can see something clearer...thats only time it comes back RC

So why cant the video ref just award in favour of this opinion rather than sending it back?

The video refs cannot conclusively say it's a try, therefore it goes back to the initial opinion.

I don't get a lot of the hating on video refs. A lot of calls that are hard to determine to the naked eye are made clear cut by the video ref. Remember the Toyota Cup grand final last year with no video ref? Everyone here was blowing up as to why they didn't use it.

The video refs get it wrong so often but even more mistakes were made before the video ref. I don't mind waiting a couple of minutes if it means they get more decisions correct.

Brown was robbed a try which robbed as the game Minichello did exactly the same thing today in the roosters first try and they ruled a try proves the NRL is rigged or somthing

Consistency for mine is the real problem. 3 similar incidents over the weekend, 2 get a green and one gets a red.

One on Friday night and one today gave the try when without a VR neither would have been given and neither was 100% conclusive. Brown's should have been given or the other two should have been knocked back.

Listening to Ray Hadley's show on 2GB this afternoon and they felt that the Mitch Brown try should have been awarded, for mine they slow the replay down too slow looking for the error that doesn't appear in real time with the naked eye.

I definately agree with you here, people can complain all they want about them video refs making mistakes but without doubt there would many more games unfairely decided if not for the video ref. God forbid if what had happened to our under 20's team had happened in first grade.. People would be commiting suicide.

I do think the video ref is necessary, but it's abused by the on-field refs continually deferring to it rather than making a decision themselves.

In the Rabbitohs/Dogs game a few weeks back the refs made a few calls that would usually have been deferred. It maintained the momentum of the game and made it infinitely more enjoyable (maybe because I didn't care about the game's outcome…).

But the fact it was refreshing is a huge concern - the refs were just doing what they were supposed to do.

If refs can avoid going to the video then they should - there's already four of them out there. Unfortunately, self-preservation on the refs' part means they're scared to make a call, which ultimately goes some way in ruining the game.
