firstly, let me just put up a disclaimer that i dont condone violence against women

now, why is it so bad that a woman beater is considered the lowest scum of the earth but punching someone in a bar isnt considered half as bad? i really dont understand this discrimination. for me, violence is violence and it is never an answer to any problem.

because they're weaker? well studies have shown women are emotionally stronger than men (from an elective i did at uni lol) and almost all of us have experienced a girl really getting on our nerves but most of us wouldnt even think of touching them in a violent manner because no matter what we respect them as a human being. i think this liberty should be extended to every person and not just women… every person needs to be respected and not be hit.

When a bloke has a go at a woman , she is heavily disadvantaged

Tig-prmz,I can understand the points you make,before we judge anyone who has beaten a woman,let's look at the background of the offending person…does he come from a violent background,was he beaten by his parents etc these are the things that linger in someone's life, and please Iam not defending the offender here.
There is usually a reason why they do this,but having said that there are avenues for help,woman bashing should not be tolerated...

Now on the other hand,most people have been taught respect for the other sex and not to hit women,these are just some points I have made and we could chat alnight for the arguments on this topic...

I will say that I have been working in the hospitality industry for many years,mainly hotels and clubs as a Manager or Supervisor.
In that time I have seen many a blue and most of them have been started by women..It still is not an excuse to hit a woman,but sometimes they push a persons button to the limit,it's how we control the situation that is the difference...how we have been raised by our parents and taught discipline is what makes the difference.

no im talking of the reason WHY a man might hit a woman. men are naturally more violent and at times when a woman emotionally tortures a guy (i know of a few incidents like these personally), a guy hit her because he doesnt have the emotional capacity to handle it.

personally, i cant condone hitting a child or someone with a mental disability because they dont have the mental presence to know what they're doing wrong

Biggest problem with many of these issues is both parties don't walk away and take a breathe when they can , sober up , whatever it may be

put a sober guy in front of a guy who's had a dozen shots of tequila and no matter if the drunk guy is the reigning boxing champion- he's gonna be just as weak as a teenage girl.

punching anyone is a cowardly act no matter what- unless it's self defense.

There is absolutely zero comparison between a man hitting a woman and 2 men fighting it out in a bar.

I agree with the original post. The whole physical difference in genders thing is a moot point in parts too, there's blokes out there twice my size.
The problem lies in the glorification of violence in sports and media. It's engrained in societal expectations that a man must defend his honour with his fists, and is considered inferior if they can't.
There's no reasonable place in the modern world for violence, but as long as it is shown on highlight reels it'll never change.

A woman beater certainly is a grub however to be fair women are more sly and conniving and sometimes they use these sly ways to unfortunate honest trusting men.Its like paedophilia,absolutely deplorable and sickening and child abusers should be hung and 99% of the time its men who are responsible.However if you looked at the amount of women who tear the shreds out of there kids brains because daddy has left and paints him as the monster of all monsters when in fact hes better than the mum well you are also a child abuser.Paedophiles and women bashers are two acts of complete lowlifes but the way women can spin there evil little webs can also be very damaging to good guys and kids.Men are physical and women are mental and they can do as much damage as each other but it is only men that get called out for the physical acts(as they should) but women aand there mental torture seem to get a free reign in society.This only applies for a small percentage of women most gals are good women but society does need to learn that girls are not always angels and boys are not always devils.

Civilised countries protect the weak this is a basic concept. A "average" man is stronger than the average woman.
If you look at our sports NRL ,boxing ,Olympics we know the physical difference between gender.
If the 19 year old woman bashes a 90 year old frail man society would look down on woman. Protecting the weak.
As far as mental abuse is concerned we're still in the dark ages.
One of the reasons why men's health is so important these dates.

I see it as simple as our DNA. It is basic primate behaviour for males to fight with each other. This establishes a social hierarchy. Females are (generally) too smart for that and tend to stay out of the way and watch (and learn) from the sidelines.

In general, males fight with males, not with females. In some groups of primates there is evidence that subdominant primate males that behave violently towards females are ostracised by the greater social group, sometimes being badly beaten by a group of other males. However, dominant primate males can and do use violence (or the threat of it) to maintain their version of social order against both other males and females. As well, dominant primate females will use violence against subdominant females.

So, there is an ingrained social difference between violence towards males and towards females. No doubt this drives our perception that violence against females is not acceptable. The difference in humans is education, knowing when and how to put the brakes on.

Jerry violence is a choice. It's not an instinct.
It is never acceptable and no woman ever invites it or deserves it.
Holding women at least partially responsible for violence against them, is another attitude that makes it more difficult to hold perpetrators to account. This sort of thinking has got to shift if we are to see positive changes.
