I really like the idea of Allen as CEO - for 2 reasons (well, 3 really). With a GM in place as well, it would seem that we might finally be putting ourselves onto a solid foundation. And Smith as GM would be a good move in my opinion - with a solid CEO to keep him on track.

His job title (if hired) is General Manager of Football Operations. It entirely involves making decisions about the football side of things.

I think yeti was supporting him to be appointed as a replacement for Mayer as CEO, rather than the GM of football operations.

A couple of my well connected Rugby mates have told me that the ex-CEO of the Waratahs may be heading to Tiger town. I don't know what the role would be but apparently he and the Waratahs coach Michael Cheika don't get on and Cheika has the runs on the board given the Waratahs won the title this year. So someone has to go and it won't be the coach.\

Apparently (and I think the name was Allen) is a financial whiz-kid and he turned the Waratahs around financially in a few years. Again he is very well connected when it comes to finding sponsorship and connecting with the fanbase.\

Before we start doing cartwheels this is only a rumour and there would have to be a significant number of stars to align for this to happen._

Guys, I posted this on Friday night after a couple of drinks with a couple of mates who are very much in the know when it comes to the Waratahs.

I think we need to understand why he's coming.

I don't know him at all, but I was told he doesn't doubt his own ability and likes to share his opinion.

Can't agree about Smith though, Every club that he's been involved with has a whole other set of problems after he has been there.Can you imagine him sitting in the background death riding whoever is the Coach. The fact that he may even be considered after he did the review is a conflict of interest Imo.

Yes and we're saying that he'd be better as CEO and maybe the board on seeing his resume will have their brain tick over the same way we are.

Mayer wasn't CEO at first either you know…

On face value, there would be an odd alliance between these two gents.
Irrespective of their titles, they have remarkably similar histories in marketing well and attracting big $$$ sponsors so I just wonder, if this combo ever was, how long before the room wasn't big enough for both?

Good point T1 …. I could think of worse things than a Brian Smith style overhaul.
Someone has to go in and make some hard decisions.

Allen is definitely not the man for the GM position. The position requires an intricate knowledge about league and unless he's been a huge fan (which considering he's from SA would appear unlikely) he would lack the know how to do that role effectively.

As has been stated, the CEO role would be another story, but if Mayer goes soon too then who's left at the club with a knowledge of the ins and outs of the club? The board don't know, and a rookie CEO and GM wouldn't know anything about us. As the CEO is advising the board, i can't see them getting rid of Mayer any time soon. It would expose the board too much.

Allen as CEO and then really you'd be looking at someone like a Gus Gould for the GM role. People who would fit that bill would include: Smith, Sheens, Ryan, Bennett, Fulton, Anderson etc. Many already have affiliations with other clubs and may not be likely to take up a position with us.

In terms of past heroes affiliated with WT who may also have enough of a brain to be effective in the GM role perhaps Wayne Pearce would be a good option. All Balmain allegiances aside he's an intelligent and respected man who's been around league for a long time and was the inaugural coach of WT and has coached Origin. Players like Sirro, Raudonikis etc wouldn't be up to a management role like this.
