Warren Smith said it best...

We are the worst team at the "one percenters" in the competition and have been for several seasons. He looked angry when he said it, and he would know being a staunch Tigers fans. He highlighted the Dogs breakaway try again us 2 weeks ago. Whilst it was seen as a magic try, the chase on the inside from the Tigers was of the lowest standard imaginable. There was no way a line break would have occured, let alone a try if our inside players chased the kick and covered the space.

All the "one percenters" we are poor at. The kick chase, the last tackle options, the lack of wrestling on the ground, try line defence, consistent line speed, not winning the collisions. That has to be a black mark against the coach. Why are we the worst team at these one percenters that go along way to being a consistent winning football team? Probably because there is no punishment really for not being up in these areas.

Even 2010 and 2011 we pretty much below par in terms of consistency and poor for long stretches of the season. It's just so obvious that the place needs a revamp and is stale. The way Brian Smith spoke about our team on the weekend, its obvious he doesn't respect us. Cameron Smith said a month ago i remember vividly "We don't want to be a team like Wests Tigers that tries to outscore the opposition". That has got to hurt, our club is seen as flashy and talented, but with a soft underbelly.

You would almost rather run in the bottom 3 or 4 like Balmain did in the late 90's having a red hot go each week with nobodies, then a team that doesn't reach it's potential because essentially it's soft.

I thought you were going to say ''as a result''. No one says ''as a result'' like Warren Smith. ''As a result'' should be his middle name

Well said Eddie, great post.

Can't we have posts like this forwarded to the coach and management. So many of us are
Making so much sense but are we all wrong ?

Sure, most of us are just passionate supporters of the club we love and we don't know all the inside info on how our club works…. But why do most of us see the problems and yet we continue to fail in the same areas year after year. Lack of accountability all round it seems .

I've always said we have the worst kick chase in the nrl. Ask anyone who knows anything about footy and they'll tell you this is the best indication of a teams attitude.

As I said in another thread what annoys me most is every club seems to find a different way to beat us

If we had a deficency in one or two areas I could live with it

To give you some examples

Roosters use high kicking game mixed with killing us in the forwards due to size and mobility

Parra tore holes in our compressed defence

Dogs destroyed us due to our poor kick chase ,something that Sheens even mentioned pre match

Newcastle killed us out wide by playing outside in

Saints flogged us up the middle

It just goes on and on

You don't see the Manly,'Storm or Dogs get beaten a different way every week This is what we should be aiming at

Eddie one of your best posts and Iam afraid they are a very very lazy football side and they lack the ability to concentrate for more than a set.

They make more coach killer mistakes than any other side in the comp and thats because they are not held accountable and the same blokes make the same mistakes every week. The coach has never tried a different approach to the one that worked for 10 weeks in 2005 and has failed ever since.

Its not all Sheens fault and the players should be under the pump big time but its a fact of life you cant sack the team so you have to sack the coach

They are like this because there are no consequences for not playing well….look at Souths and the Dogs do somethign wrong and the players pay for it...

Warren Smith = best commentator going around. He always opens with: "And the Tigers will play from in front tonight!" Always closes with: "And they'll be dancing in the streets of Redfern tonight!"

Laurie Daley always says "the football". As in "if they respect the football and complete their sets with the football; well, this is the football that should see them win the football match tonight".

This has been one of my biggest gripes with Sheens in his time here. His lack of attention to this issue. Those 1%'s go a long way to winning a football game and it has hurt us time after time. It is an attitude thing. It is about application in getting the job done. These are not high skill attributes but matters of the mind, and we have sucked at it for too long.

But did Warren have any answers to our predicament? That's what i want to hear more of really. The mistakes are obvious. I want to know how to fix them. That interests me more.

Hooter Daley's favourite line is "I suppose". Listen for it, always gets a run.

Who's responsible for all this 1%'s?

We clearly need to employ a designated 1% coach before 2013 kicks off.
What's Tim's brother Bob doing at the moment???

Eddie, the voice of reason yet again. Fantastic post and I agree 5000%.

I dare any person out there to try and argue otherwise. This team continually fails at the little things and it has been a theme of Sheens' tenure for a long, long time.

To fix the 1%'s takes a whole new approach. But in the short-term a little fear in players keeping positions in the team couldn't hurt. Time to stop being soft.

if we can see that the 1% are causing issues, :brick: why then won't or can't the coaching staff admit it :unamused: , and ensure it does not repeat in 2013.

The coaching staffs 1%ers is keeping their own jobs

Ironically from memory "The 1%ers" was the seasons catch cry in 2005

License to thrill

Paul Kent in the same segment reckoned the board will be watching Sheens very very closely these next two years…..HAH!
