Was Charlie Gubb's offence worth 7 weeks?

Not updated on the story, didn't even see the incident, but can somebody explain how his tackle is worth 7 weeks?

I want to know because I'm still disgusted at Sam Thaiday's tackle on Paul Gallen. An inch here or there and Gallen was a paraplegic for life. 2-3 week s for that one.

P.S. I will never stop my tirade toward the NRL's joke of an administration.

It's not about the offence itself in isolation. He's a repeat offender, and the sentence reflects as much.
I don't have any issue with it.

He has form so it is hard to expect a sympathetic ear and of course he is not from one of the more powerful clubs. So I guess he could not expect much better.

I actually like him as a player, plenty of passion and a tough nut, discipline needs some work

Joke of a suspension. Dylan Napa pulls off worse shoulder charges every game and never has a case to answer.
Jake Mamo's 2 week suspension from last week was also ludicrous.
The NRL judiciary get it wrong nearly every time, its insane.

I think the charge itself was 350 base points (so 3 games) but he copped savage loading because he's had two prior similar incidents in the past 12 months. It does seem harsh on the face of it but I do agree with their approach of being harsh on repeat offending. He should just stop bloody shoulder charging…

Because he's a benchie at a small club the NRL will make an example out of him. If an origin player at a big club does an identical tackle he would cop 3 weeks if he's unlucky.

No. Nor was Simona's crusher worth 3 weeks. Gubb has not learnt from previous indiscretions, but neither has Inglis who only copped a couple of weeks for breaking a jaw. The MRP process and gradings are a joke

"The base charge for the offence is 350 points, but two similar offences in the last two years means Gubb is facing a maximum seven match ban." Each similar offence in the last 2 years adds 50% loading so he was facing 700 points instead of 350.
A guilty plea would have reduced to 525 points and a 5 week suspension but he went all in and lost.
Inglis was charged with the same, "Shoulder Charge Grade 2" and entered an early guilty plea reducing the charge to 315 points. So he got 3 weeks with 15 carryover points.
