Amazing not only see how much the game has changed rule wise, but in how the game is played. It's 17-6, the Maroons get a penalty and they go for a shot at goal, just wouldn't see that these days when you're that far behind.

Yeah Dave watching the Game 3 of the 86 Kanagaroos Tour

Yeah forget about the goal kickers also They are far better in the current age

No video ref , they just called what they saw , brawls ,high tackles ,competing in scrums , scrum penalties 5 metre rule

In a sense its almost a different game

Miss the old Kangaroo Tour games as well , kept the season going for much longer as well

1986 side is probably close to the best side we have produced ever

The thing I really miss about those days is the unconventional yet brilliant ball movement. All players except wingers had ball skills.

Something never change Stryker

Wingers are still hopeless

somehow missed the replies on this

yeah I've got the "Best of the Blues" on DVD.

It is a very different game today to what it was. Amazing to see the evolution and the overall game change.

A lot of the games have been far more enjoyable to watch than in recent years.

They are great to watch…. Alot of players on the park were true footballers, unlike today were you see 2-3 footballers and 28 athletes. There are so many of todays players who wouldnt come close to a game in the 80's. They would end up playing VFL instead.

'Best of the Blues' hey Dave... Is that a commercial length dvd???

4 volumes, 12 dvds, my only complaint is it all should have been in order…..........rather than a random mix of games on each disc.

I love watching the old deep lob passes from DH, some 15 metres back to the half, who needs time and space for a clearing kick with the old leather balls. His kick goes to about 30 m out and bobbles all over the place. The passes are also so deep too, often the runner gets the ball way behind the advantage line.

The overall skillset is so much higher now, as is the athleticism, which I feel reduces the ability for real footy heads to showcase their skills. There used to be such a difference between the halves with real guile and the lumbering props, whereas nowadays you may just get run down by a fit prop.

Truth being told though, I think looking back at the 80s has a lot to do with rose-coloured glasses. I remember the Winfield Cup, Origin and Kangaroo tours being epic to watch, but much like the old classic cartoons, not so good on repeated modern viewing.

I'm not so sure Jirskyr…
The games back then weren't as fast nor spectacular but they were bloody tough and were played by footballers who were less manufactured and more just "naturals".

Today's games are played by a bunch of athletic gym junkies who all look the same and react the same.. Its the attack of the clones.

Too much farting around these days, particularly vid refs and their ability to turn the simplest decision into an almighty clanger…im losing interest more and more.

In the old days everyone saw the missed forward pass that led to a try, the crowd groaned, the (c) had a word to the ref...who waved him away and everyone just got on with it.
