I'm sick of panic buying players.

DWZ may fit this category. Like packer, mats, JRey any new addition needs to be for the right $$$ if we are ever to truly improve.

Well done to Parra for sticking to their price limit on Gutherson. We need to do the same from now on.

Parra ended up front loading his 2019 contract to get him to sign, Gutho won that battle

Well at least we've finally got a coach who can see that Packer and ET are has beens that should never see the NRL again.

Hopefully I never have to see either of them carry the ball for 27m again.

So with Gutho signed i don't see any realistic chance of the Eels getting DWZ with the players they currently have e.g. Ferguson, Sivo, Gutho etc.

Matulino used to under the same category but he has improved alot under Madge.

@Nelson Perhaps, but there's some dispute out there as to how much he's actually on. I've heard everything from $400k to $700k being discussed. Granted, $700k would be too expensive but at around $500k I think DWZ would be a very handy signing.

$500K to do what though? He's never looked like $500K worth of player at club level on the wing has he? He might make a good value fullback at that price if he can perform like he did for NZ at the end of last year but even then we'll have made a headache for ourselves with what to do about Mbye...

If Mbye is on 700k, Nof on 420k, Jennings on 400k, you'd have to think DWZ would get at least 500k. Wouldn't pay more than that for him though. Also a maximum of a 3 year deal. None of this 4-5 year rubbish. He's had some injury issues, 2-3 years is fine!

Maybe if we offered Packer+Nof for DWZ i'd be happy. That's a million out of our cap for a decent player hopefully on 500k and 500k to spend on others. Surely Ivan isn't that stupid though?

Yeah sadly that's not how it works - you can't just give other teams all your lousy contracts in return for their good ones. The possible up side is that if Penrith really think they can't get any more value out of DWZ and therefore he's nothing other than 600k of dead money, they might be willing to pay some freight either by taking a crap contract off us or by eating some of DWZ's money. We can't just say "here's some players, let's swap".

Interesting that Parra & us are in the running for his signature. Both incumbent fullbacks are also both well-payed captains at their respective clubs (Mbye/Gutho).

DWZ is good stock, has a young family, super talented. I think we as punters generally understate what professional athletes go through, the toll it takes, and how that can affect performance - I don't think he's in a form slump whatsoever he's just looking for stability. I think he wants to play for Madge & keep repping the Kiwis. Playing with Benji, Aloai, Marsters etc would give him a thrill/purpose

A Packer<>DWZ swap is on the cards....just hope riff take all of Packers contract and pitch in a bit for DWZ

Is this from sources or just your knowledge?

@swag_tiger DWZ could be playing the Raiders....who knows!

He's not playing the Eagles this week that for sure.

Adding to that, the coach who had your team purring at 4th spot has been sent to centrelink and the CEO hires his mate who is also the halfback’s dad. Your team has a horror start to the year and you’re hovering around 15th or 16th spot 11 rounds in. No wonder he’s disenfranchised.

It seems to me that Penrith are trying to "control the narrative" by saying he got a big head being captain of NZ. Which is the opposite of what most clubs say about having their players play rep.

An awful lot has gone wrong at Penrith in the last 6 months, and very little of it has anything to with Dallin.

@851

That seems to be the case, my mate is a Parra 1st grader says player settled in the end.

Im happy to be corrected.

Feeling remains the same though. No more inflated salaries for players out of favour or aging.

Has not been able to earn the fullback spot over many years, he is an overpaid winger. I don't care how nice a guy he may be, I cannot see him seriously improving any position in our side, and certainly not value at 700k per year.

Agreed he is a reasonable player but not one we should throw large dollars at

@jadtiger I think all our backline players are equal if not better than DWZ so let's not throw ourselves at him just yet
