Hahaaaa yeah they're the glass half full, one eyed, rose glasses wearing fans who are poor judges of rugby league.

It seems there's a battle of the realists vs the optimistic dreamers on this forum and it's safe to say the realists are winning and have been for more than a decade, although I wish they weren't.

I wish I was wrong, I wish I had good reasons to be optimistic but I don't and even the optimist's can't provide any, but yet they'll call me and others like minded fickle fans for being realistic and calling a spade a spade.

It's funny what you say here and I always make this comment:

Optimism and pessimism are just predictions. Nobody is a realist or a dreamer because nobody knows for sure what will happen. To pretend to know this, to call people bad judges, it's really quite condescending.

You aren't a realist, you just see the facts pointing in a certain direction. People who don't come to the same conclusions aren't dreamers either. The future has not happened and all predictions are guesses, by definition; they are not real or unreal until they have occurred.

It's only about mindset. I personally don't want to go around expecting the worst outcome to occur. I try to hope for the best. Sure I'm disappointed when things fail, but when it comes to football I have next to no control over how the football team performs.

What I don't understand from "the realists" is why you are so disappointed with the Tigers' season, at least as disappointed as any optimistic fan. If you expected us to do poorly, if you expect us to continue to do poorly, then great, the team can only meet or exceed expectations. It's a very low bar to set, and if the team stuffs up, then you should be emotionally prepared for it?

It seems some people here need to constantly remind others of what they thought or predicted earlier, they need to be proven right constantly…is it an ego thing or justification issues?
Knowing your stuff here is very very important...LOL

well said,

also, the way we turn on our players is depressing, footy is a great pass time, but its just a sport. I'm not being dismissive, I actually go to all the games while in Oz, but it's just a game, and these people you follow are real people with real life issues. Be a bit kinder in your comments.

Have you got any good reason to be optimistic?

History is proof of the bad judges, look at our last decade, if the truth is condescending or hurts your feelings it's not my fault.
Like I said, I call it how I see it and I'm not seeing a bright future, are you?
Why?

I never said I was so disappointed, I had hoped for a positive change in a few areas but I didn't expect us to make the 8 and I actually think we've gone quite well up until the last 6 weeks or so.

Trust me this capitulation was no surprise to me, I am a little surprised how ordinary our big signings have been though.

I'm being realistic about our chances based on my assessment of our capabilities compared to the opposition, it's that simple and if you don't like what I say don't read it.

I think it’s more funny that there are people on here who are about to jump of a bridge when they had not predicted the team to make semis before the start of the year. Also funny the posters who after 5 rounds thought Cleary was the best coach and the recruits such as packer and rochow were amazing. Now Cleary can’t coach , the recruits can’t play and blah blah blah. Take a chill pill and relax.

Love It! ….and well said ink, icon and jirskyr.
\
\
My influence over the team and game improves with every beer.

I predicted undefeated minor premiers and eventual premiers and will do the same next year..was looking good after 2 rounds..

There is no easy solution, basically we have a bottom three roster and attracting talent is a really hard and expensive. Our chances of attracting a marquee signing is next to nil, so I would be looking at the better clubs and players who can’t get a run in the top grade regularly. We need speed, power and grunt. No more journey men please

Agreed!

Cue sarcastic comment labelling us soft from some tough anonymous champion

I would love to see Farah with 300 NRL FG games after his name but who knows where or when. Like waiting for Serena Wlliams break Margaret Court's record.

Wests Tigers have a lot more problems than having Farah break 300 games. This club has to be run a lot more like a business than a charity. That's why the club is where it is now.

Great post Icon, especially the last bit.

I get frustrated with players and have given up after having faith until last week, but these are just people at the end of the day. In fairness this thread has been mostly ok in the comments imo, but some of the other threads are in pretty poor taste. I hope the "realists" are happier with actual reality!

Not meaning to single you out because you used that word Tiger. Since the Farah debacle version 1.0 I have stopped judging people for their posts on any single topic because most of the time I agree with them on some things and on others I don't.

I'm commenting more on how the mood gets here when the season is over prematurely year after year. I get why, but we are still responsible for what we say or type, game day thread excluded imo because the games are periods of heightened stress and major disappointment.

But I have no problem with people giving their opinion about a "football player".

Some need to distinguish the difference between commenting on a players ability as a footballer and them as a "person".

I understand they are people, I've had friends in the past who have played NRL, I've driven them to and from training, I've hung out with them on their days off etc
I'm not criticising them as a person, I don't know them so why would I.

I have a question for anyone who doesn't like others giving their opinion on players when they're not performing.

Is it OK to give a player a wrap when they play well?
If your answer is Yes (which it should be)

What's your problem with pointing out when they play crap?

Some only seem to notice the negative things people say and ignore the positive.
I give credit when it's deserved and I'll comment when I see the opposite and I won't apologize for doing so.

It's not as if I'm writing and sending players hate mail to their house.

Just to be clear, Ive no problem with this.
Im probably less critical now than I used to be, I think Im just tired and its an ongoing thing here at WTs year after year= futile really.
With the bouquets come the brickbats

We needed a hooker badly, Liddle injured, so IC got Robbie back. Great move, builds culture, builds public faith, hopefully improves Liddle

We needed a fullback, Lolo didnt work out, so IC got MBye. Again great move, high quality, Dogs even paying some of his wage. I'll repeat, Bulldogs are paying someone to play at Wests Tigers! Good to have it this way for a change.

It's pretty clear what Ivan's plan is, we just got to let him do it:

* Build a squad of average guys who work hard
\

* Make them work harder, develop that working hard mentality, so they can actually sustain it, build a culture
\

* Upgrade players individually, where need be (just about all of them barring a very few)
\

* Profit (Finals)

It's a bit concerning that we've signed 3 players with injury problems that we already knew about on long term deals.

Matulino
McQueen
Reynolds

Then we've got
Lolo - who is finished as far as I'm concerned

Nofo - Injury and form problems, Best is behind him

Taylor - Who is also done as a footballer, just has no zip in his legs at all.

Eiso - I can't see him improving

Sue - Stagnant

Garlic sauce - Is a mystery

Chee cam - Can't see improvement

Liddle - ????

Rochow - We've seen his best and it's average at best.

Twal - Even have my doubts although he's been solid I'm not sure he gets much better

Benji - Probably retires

Gamble - ????

Packer - A dud

Our engine room looks like its got oil leaks everywhere and has been patched up with sticky tape, and its flooded.

We have massive problems scoring points, we've gone from being known as an attacking team to a defensive team (for 6 weeks) to a team that can't do either well, we're all at sea at the moment.
And dry land isn't on the horizon.

I'll make a prediction now that we won't make the 8 for the next 3 years and we'll go closer to getting the spoon than we will 8th spot.

And Ivan will be sacked or not re-signed.

I see you are definitely a " glass half empty " sort of guy. Why do you bother following the side at all. Must be depressive?

Well I guess if the glass looks half empty to me I'll say it's half empty.
Just call it how I see it.

Have you got something to add that I might have missed that might sway me to see it half full?
