We need a new coach and we need to lock it in now

If we ask the big 4 who they want, what would any recommendation be based on? Maybe we should get Mr Jenkins. Apparently he made quite an impression coaching a few of them in the Leichhardt Wanderers U/7's

They probably love to have JT as they know that there's no consequences for crap performances

Not sure Rankin, Milone or Curtis Sironen would agree with you… Taylor seems less inclined to flog a dead horse than Sheens was...

Took a lot of games before he took any action and in Rankins case , way too long

New coach? Too easy, a number of experts on this forum claimed their grandma would be a better coach, here is a the chance

Mines been dead for 20 yrs but maybe she'd be more inspiring (even in her current circumstances)
Than JT is

Maybe Steve McNamara is an option. Former international coach, has been an NRL assistant for a number of years. Just ignore his record at the Bradford Bulls before Potter took over.

What did Payten actually do to upset so many fans?

Was supposedly white anting Potter with others.

For mine a better question would be….What has Payten actually done (as a coach) to have so many fans (of him taking over from Taylor)?

Because these kids dominated in NYC while he was coach. Now they can't dominate a wet paperbag and think he will change that.
Not likely.

The 'big' four want him. What a joke. Wests, being wests, this rumour is probably true and we'll appoint him.

well if true thats frightening and I hope managment at strong and either retain Taylor or replace him with the best available replacement. Neither in my opinion would involve Todd Payten.

If the players are dogging it under Taylor than they are dumber than your average footballers. Because with the exception of Tedesco and Woods, these guys need to be winning first grade games to to keep their price tag from plummeting. Let's say worst case scenario we start 1 from 6 or 2 from 8, why would any club fork out decent cash to any of them. They're cutting off their nose to spite their face by not playing for the coach ATM.

I'll refrain from commenting until after today's game….I want to see what JT can get out of this team today. Going by his last press conference I'm not sold on us performing today. Especially if we are well behind at half time today.

It doesn't matter who coached the kids at NYC level, they played against their own age..Jesus Christ could have coached them and got the best out of them….big, big difference stepping into the big arena playing against mostly hardened NRL players who know how to hurt and make people look good and bad..,Brooks can't contend consistently with talented NRL players ,but yet could against his own age..,Payten shouldn't get a look in as a coach for our side,we need a proven NRL coach or stick to JT for another year...he has done the hard yards...people shouldn't buy into the hyped up potential of some young players...it ends in disappointment ...

Maguire is being shopped around what thoughts with this name as he has not been in any frame ,an expieranced successful coach worth a look IMO if the job becomes available.

Far better option than Payten would be IMO

Well today's game may answer some questions. I was at Canberra for that game when the players did dog it and it spelt the end of Potter, there was only a couple of players who could hold their heads high after such a disgusting team performance and one of them was Austin.

The team nearly lost me as a supporter that day and it still irks me. That and the woeful performance there last year are the reasons I'm not in the ACT today, they need to have a dig!

My congratulations to "macdougall" for a well thought out and emotion-free article. I have read the Form from time to time but not always gotten involved.

I fully agree with the article and generally ongoing replies. This in not about changing coaches for the sake of changing coaches but we cannot hope to succeed under the present set up. My understanding is that the present coach came to the club with "carte blanche" to get things going, and we have certainly seen some changes but not with a greta deal of success.

His first stint as head coach (Parramatta) didn't set the world on fire but can be ignored given the set up and first go. His next attempt (Souths) also wasn't a great success - either on the field or at Mad-Monday. He seemed to do well at Roosters as an assistant coach and may that is his best option rather than head coach.

I've lost track of how many assistant coaches we have turned over in the last 3 years - some only lasting a few months. The biggest surprise was Brett Kimmorley taking the 20s to 1 game short of the grand final and apparently walking away? He also preferred attending an old players reunion at Newcastle to Tigers end of season function!

There is also the nonsense that we only missed the finals last year by a point and had Mitchell Moses kicked a few more goals through the year it would have been different. What an absolutely stupid comment. The reality is we had a change in the 3rd last round (Penrith away) and last round (Raiders Leichhardt). With everything to play for in both games, we didn't lose either game - we got flogged in both. If we blame the emotion of the day (Robbie's "farewell") for that final loss then we are really clutching at straws. The truth is even had we scraped in to the finals we would only have lasted 1 week.

Apart from shedding assistant coaches more often than a dog sheds it fur, we were also good at paying players top dollar to play against us at other games.

My final comment is the way the coach attended last year's post match media conferences. Week after week we got the same mantra - "not good enough, need to do better". Instead of attending we could just have played a tape. While it may just be the way he is, he also turns up looking like he's about to burst into tears like the kid who had his play lunch taken by the school bully.

There are a few coaches "on the market" but my choice would be Todd Payten. He's been involved with the Wests Tigers as both a player and coach. He's coached the 20s so knows both the culture and some of he players. I firmly believe he would fi right in and be up and running from day 1.

It's time for the management and board to stop playing favourites and put the club and long-suffering fans ahead of their own interests. Last year against us the Raiders put on 60 at home and 50 when they came to Leichhardt.

if the players dont want to play for taylor they need to bring a coach in quick smart… lovett and naquama are not NRL standard yet this muppet of a coach still selects them.... like joey johns said the halves have given up. no fight in them... everyone calls Payto a white ant but the boys will play for him..... i would rather a coach there that the dressing room is behind rather than whats going on now.....

I've been very neutral as far as Taylor is concerned, but I've had enough.
He got rid of the problem causing Farah, got the team he wanted and the coaching staff he wanted.
Still we get this crap week in week out.
Bye Jas.

You can't win games with defence like the rubbish that has been dished out over the last few seasons. The main person to blame is the coach. Bellamy, Bennett Flanagan have this under control because their players respect them. Taylor has lost the dressing room, a long time ago.
