We need to buy players next season.Simple as that.

This was my concern when Jason Taylor was appointed as coach. Taylor has been quoted saying the Tigers wont be buying players for next season. Any decent coach would be demanding for new talent for next season, considering he has by far the worst group of talent barring 2 or 3 players. He would be demanding reasons on how the Roosters or Bulldogs can afford to buy players with their existing squads and we cant afford to buy players with our group players. The club needs to bring in a senior coach that just wont except the club finishing at the bottom with a very very average group of players.
Tigers members and fans have got to understand whats happening with this is just not acceptable. Lets see how many members there going to get next year. NOT ME

Hmm I get your point on the other clubs seemingly getting whoever they want.

I guess though that we don't know for sure what the true status of our salary cap is.

I'm sure JT would have a better squad if he could.

The club is on a deliberate path to failure this year and next. The JV will likely end and our further will be settled in 2017\. We are run by the NRL effectively now so the fact we are told we have cap issues which, is garbage and we don't sign players when we are running last says everything you need to know.

Relocating or splitting a joint venture is easier when the club is a basket case.

Missed the boat for 2016, the better players have already found new homes and the last thing we want to do is spend money on players from the bargain bins, we have been doing that for years with bugger all success.

Also we have a little problem–its called money, or should I say lack of money

It's not a lack of money… even though that is an issue too. But that would effect management, support staff and facilities rather than our roster.

It's that our cap needs repairing from years of bad management. Cash and Cap issues are different. I think the board have decided that the jnrs we have probably will need 2 years of development anyway so lets time our Finals run (and purchase quality players) at that time.

We can't keep backloading contracts. We need to bite the bullet sometime... and probably the best time is when a squad is young and still developing.

Makes sense, just frustrating knowing we probably won't be a competitive force for a few years.

Very interesting article Blackpearl, obviously we don't have an endless sack full of brown paper bags as some other clubs have…..I hope the NRL do something about rectifying this stupendous situation....all sixteen clubs SHOULD be on a level playing field when it comes to contract agreements, unfortunately some are higher in the pecking order than others.....
Once again it comes down to who has the most money to offer the player, again this indicates the state of our salary cap as it stands at the moment...we have bugger all it appears...

The worst part is that Wests Tigers are now effectively run by the NRL. The NRL will oversee and vet any of this club's CAP or financial shortcomings with a fine tooth comb. Sleight of hand CAP cheating as currently practised by most clubs cannot be even considered as a way of enticing new players to the club. Level playing field?

I think seeing 3rd Party Agreements as just brown paper bags is too simplistic a view - but it is a genuine fact that we have f-all in this department and it is a primary reason why our recruitment in the past 2-3 years has been so average. This is something that the independent directors should really have been bringing to the club - new business opportunities that could be sponsors and 3rd party companies for players to help our recruitment, but it seems that this is non-existent if we're not even attempting to recruit. It shows a complete misunderstanding of the way the NRL operates from a football and salary cap perspective, and is a major worry for the near future.

I don't understand how sides like Cronulla, Penrith and Canterbury are always in a position to sign players and change their rosters almost seamlessly, yet we are under constant pressure. Our cap must be an absolute mess. Moss certainly has his work cut out for him.

They don't waste cap money on bigger players, they use third parties to recruit the top talent, and then have the cap room they saved on this to re-sign emerging players.

Canterbury yeah, but the Sharks have been without a major sponsor for extended periods, where are they getting third party agreements from if they couldn't lock down a sponsor? I just don't see sides like Cronulla or Penrith attracting too many third parties.

So Cronulla can't get major sponsors but they have an abundance of TPA's?

Yeah right

The majority of 3rd parties are companies and individuals who either themselves don't want to, or the club doesn't want them as sponsors. It might be an image thing, or that they haven't got the brand to be a major sponsor, but these are people who are better utilised in the club as third parties to sign players rather than throwing their 50K-100k into the club's sponsorship pool. This is essentially how we signed the likes of Ellis, Tuqiri etc and kept our squad under the cap. Changes in our administration and our board has seen this dry up, and our ability to recruit a much stronger squad has diminished.
