We should have kept Paul Momirovski.

We were getting Laurie anyway, and he would had have a year with one of the best teams under his belt, and big game experience. And we'd have a right centre. And then Kepaoa/Gildart/Talau fighting for left centre. Instead we fought for the eight and didn't even make it. I know this is hindsight bias but I can't help but think we should have played the long game with this one.

Having Mbye at fullback all season would've been a lot worse than having to use all different combinations at centre

Laurie also would've got limited game time at Penrith and his development wouldn't be nearly as good as it was with us

He got to get used to our club and it's players, develop his game by playing every week and he showed a lot of improvement out there. It was the right decision at the end of the day. Laurie is still a much more important player than Momirovski and he will be a lot better next year now.

He’s solid. But he’s the kind of player who will look 10 times the player he really is in a strong team.

He is a good player either way. He's not a highlights player but he always had the nous with us to be in the right place in the right time and cross the stripe.

If I had the choice between the two I'd pick Laurie every day of the week, but if there was a way for us to hang on to him too I would have done it as well.

Yes, surprisingly, there were quite a few posters who thought the swap was a great idea. The same who thought Moma was not rated in our top 4 centres, justifying the strong desire for change, believing that any change has the opportunity of bringing some kind of overall improvement. For those, I guess the hindsight advantage is kicking in?
Moma didn’t want to go as I recall?

Sometimes the best best option is under our noses all along. Tamou for Eisenhuth, Mcintyre for Offa, Momorovski for Bj, the list goes on. It isnt working for us. The quicker this club starts giving our own a crack and is patient with them the better we will be. Everyone wanted Seyfarth gone this time last year but what do ya know - he is getting better each week and more importantly he wants to be here for the right reasons at half the price.

Exactly, that’s why I don’t believe in trying to buy “leadership”. The best leaders we now have are homegrown. I just can’t see the value in a 30 plus year old, unwanted by his club having the same level of conviction, which inspires the playing group, as someone we’ve nurtured through the junior ranks. I do however think it’s a good idea to get a skilful old head into a playmaker role such as 1, 6, 7, 9 or 13.

Fair call on the spine. I just think are poorly coached though mate - but that is just me.

Profound realisation there, and I guess proof is in the pudding too.

It just comes back to developing our own properly mate - which in my opinion is lacking.

We got Daine Laurie.

True, but we traded Momo because our coaching staff rated him our 5th best centre, when Penrith were astute enough to realise he was our best centre.
The goal should've been to keep Momo and get Laurie by trading any of BJ, Talau, Mbye , Roberts, Nofa or Kepoa.

Poor coaching talent identification again.

You do realise it doesn't work like that?

You know how well we are going when we have a momorovski lament thread lol.

Yep … our centre’s are killing it

It’s pretty simple really, we desperately needed a fullback and Riff wanted a outside back. If we kept Momo we had no real fullback, Also at the time we had Jet,BJ,AJ and Talau all candidates for the centre job. So it was a no brainer and I bet you they would make the same call again. You can put a stop gap player in the centre position but you can’t at fullback

I disagree about stop gap players at centre. Its the hardest position on the field to defend. We need defensive centres badly. How many have we burned through this year alone. Everyone keeps looking for strike in the centres but we won the comp with 2 defensive centres. Dont remember those guys having to much strike but they new how to tackle.
