Not a bad time to get the Dogs considering the level of NRL injury and Reynolds covering the suspended Hodkinson.

MAGPIES GO DOWN FIGHTING IN NSW CUP

Western Suburbs Magpies suffered a 36-20 loss to Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Saturday, June 4, in round 13 of the NSW Cup.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring through centre Jonathan Wright in the eighth minute for a 4-0 lead.

It became 10-0 when hooker Shane Pumipi surged over with Chris Armit converting the try.

The visitors went to a 14-0 lead after 20 minutes when centre Junior Tia-Kilifi dived over the line.

Five minutes later, Wests half Rhys Lenarduzzi feigned to run left before kicking to the right corner. His wing three quarter partner Taqele Naiyaravoro jumped high before patting the ball back to centre Ryan Millard who reached out with one hand to score. Lenarduzzi missed the kick from the sideline for a 14-4 scoreline.

The Dogs replied almost immediately through a try to Cutler for an 18-4 lead before a penalty goal to Cutler made it 20-4 at half-time.

Wests hit back early in the second half with a try to five-eighth Evander Waitoa. Lenarduzzi claimed the extras for a 20-10 scoreline.

Bulldogs prop Martin Taupau then scored off a bomb with the try being converted by Cutler for a 26-10 scoreline.

The remainder of the game saw both teams go tit for tat in terms of scoring points. In the twenty third minute, in what was probably the try of the day, Dogs hooker Shane Pumipi made a clean break down field and with players around him he presented a sensational pass to centre Daniel Rauicava who sprinted away to score. Chris Armit added the two points for a 30-10 lead to the visitors.

Lenarduzzi then put in a grubber kick behind the defensive line for Ryan Millard to score his second try of the afternoon to make it 30-14.

The Bulldogs hit back in the 73rd minute after being presented with a ‘six again’ call from the referee fifteen minutes out from the Magpies line. The ball was carried forward at pace by interchange player Conrad Taakmoeaka to claim his team’s last try of the afternoon. Armit converted for a 36-10 lead.

Wests full-back Gus Aiga scored near the posts in the 79th minute. Lenarduzzi converted for a 36-20 scoreline.

Wests Magpies will play Balmain Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday, June 11, at 3pm.
