Wests Tigers traditional home grounds crowds (moving average) since 2000\. Orange = Leichhardt, Black = Campbelltown

This graph is interesting and also worrying.

The long term future of the Wests Tigers will not be built on the back of Leichhardt crowds, it will be on the greatly expanding population of the Campbelltown area and I hope us gaining our own ground at some point somewhere out there.

As time goes on more and more of the players will be drawn from the Campbelltown area and the crowds will increase too.

Hopefully Humphries and co will have their eye on securing a long term solution to our ground situation rather than play on a Campbelltown Council one at their convenience. Long term Leichhardt will be paid lip service to support the joint venture. The ground is an antique albeit providing good atmosphere.

Looking forward to the day when we have our own ground capable of holding 40,000 odd.

Balmain Tigers hate Campbelltown - In the last 3-5 years there's been this power shift and all you hear is "Leichardt is a spiritual home of Rugby League", or "Nothing beats Sunday arvo footy at Leichardt"

There's a bee-d*ck difference between historical crowd figures over the 11 years, and statistically I'm struggling to recall a massive gap in any winning rates between the two.

This notion that they are equals in this merger, is exactly that … an notion.

St George has basically overpowered the Illawarra region by financial takeover.
They reap the benefits of the juniors, the money of the fans and all to preserve the dying name of the Dragons.

Balmain and their aging dinosaur fanbase (have you seen 'em ? Pensioners on a bus by the thousand !), fear being lost in the ether of history like Wests, Newtown, Norths.

Wests have the juniors, and the cash - Balmain NEEDS them more than those arrogant arses will ever admit.

Yet behind the scenes we have this orchestrated viral media campaign to "win the hearts and minds of Rugby League" by romancing the idea that that termite infested **[automatically edited]** should be the source of all things Tigers.

An 11,000 crowd on a clear Saturday night at Leichardt is described as "bumper".
A 10,500 crowd on a rainy Friday night in Campbelltown against an interstate team, (two days after Origin - yeah, like Balmain will travel to support their club then huh), is described by the same paper as "disappointing".

If the power brokers at Balmain got their way (Elias, Sironen, Roach, Jack, Dawn Fraser, Jimmy Barnes, et al), EVERY game would be at Leichardt, while they continued to rape the Macarthur areas Junior talent stocks, and hold their hand out for "cash" from the other half.

Their sixteen different jersey combinations and the plethora of merchendise available provide the extra funds to keep the ailing Balmain alive - Wests fans will buy anything. Balmain will ONLY buy Orange.

Wests fans travel to SFS and Leichardt. - Balmain will travel to SFS and Leichardt too … But not Campbelltown. "It's too far for a Friday night after work" they say. "The M5 is a joke" they say ... yet we dont hear the go-withouts from Campbelltown complain when it's Friday at Leichardt OR Monday at SFS do we ???

I'm no Tigers fan, but I'm fiercely Campbelltown.
There's more Bulldogs around here than Tigers fans so I'm comfortable and I tolerate them.
Winning in 2005 made me happy for the locals.

But I can see what's going on here ...

When they decided to do without two feeder teams, who got to keep theirs ?
When they wrote a song to out-do the NRL, where was the Wests part ?

Make no mistake ... if they could ditch them, they would !

I too would love our own ground. I just can't see any new ground in NSW being built in the next 20 years, unless 100% privately funded. Being from the Balmain area originally I too can see a time when we need to be based more out of Sydney's South West, the population is there.

The only other solution would be to go in a joint development of a stadium at Liverpool with the Bulldogs. A state of the art 40,000-50,000 seat stadium there with a game every week could be the long term solution for both sides.

ah so tigger = moth

Spot On

I think we've been hearing for ten years now that the Wests Tigers will eventually shift more out into the Campbelltown region because that's where the growth, juniors etc are … and what do ya know, nothing's happened yet. Hater has a good point (or seven) for whilst all this Balmain nostalgia anchors the club to an almost "dead" area - Aussie Rules, the Bulldogs,Parramatta and the Roosters nibble at the south west like dead of night predators circling a neglected hen house. I'm surprised the NRL hasn't lent on the club or waved an inducement or something.

And the angst felt by the 'haters' out there have only been inflamed by the NSW Cup situation - where Wests best juniors are now being sent off by head office to play for Ryde Eastwood (I don't think Balmain can afford a NSW Cup team, can they ?). Now wherever you sat prior to the merger - you've got to admit that's tough to take for the Magpie faithful. Kind of reminds me of the NSW V Qld games prior to Origin - which of course installed a great love of the Blues north of the border (sarcasm).

Anyway, we are all Wests Tigers fans and support them wholeheartedly... however there are a few issues that need be urgently sorted.

Spot On

Why is it spot on geo.PLEASE enlighten me.

This guy has a short memory and i agree with sirro we saved your asses and we only joined cause the nrl were going to dump more teams and we were in that catagory but in the end they didnt.

He mentions the Illawarra and in some way i agree he has points but to compare that to wests and balmain is stupid SPECIALLY WHEN CAMPBELLTOWN IS A INHERITED AREA BY WESTS and they had it for 20 years and done nothing with it.The results speak for themselves

Lol im a ex balmain and i have 3 jerseys that are more black then orange so wrong again.

Like to know when we get 11000 at leichhardt if the weathers good.

BALMAIN OR WESTS COULD NOT SURVIVE ON THEIR OWN FACE FACTS I HAVE OR WE CAN GO BACK TO THE DAYS WHEN YOU HAD THE WHOLE OF CAMPBELLTOWN TO PICK FROM AND STILL GOT 50 TO 60 ON YOU EVERY WEEK IF YOU LIKE.Didnt see many juniors coming through in those days.

http://stats.rleague.com/rl/seas/1999.html

look at the last 7 rounds… Both Balmain and Wests bled points.

Wests in particular were horrible. Flogged EVERY SINGLE WEEK.

Both teams were shot ducks, and if they had have both been too proud, i'd probably be a Melbourne Storm Supporter by now, as back then they were my 2nd favorite team....

What a classic. There is no Balmain or Western Suburbs in the NRL today. If you have a problem with that - rack off and go follow another code or comp. Leave the rest of us to follow our beloved Wests Tigers.

FTR - I was born in a room above a shop in Darling St Rozelle - 50m from the Balmain Leagies. I grew up in Rozelle. Up until 1999 I bled back and gold. Now I bleed black white and gold. My 2, 4, 6 and 8 yr olds know nothing of Balmain or Wests. I take them to scream for the Westst Tigers. They don't care if we play at SFS, Cambo or Leichardt - they scream for the wests tigers. in 10 yrs time, anyone who mentions the name Balmain or Wetsern Suburbs will be seen as dinosours - if they aren't already. Anyone who tries to argue for either Balmain or Wests will be (as they already are) seen as the losers they are.

Get a life loser! ANd anyone giving any sort of credence to anything this loser has said - you can rack off too. Support the Wests TIgers - or go follow net ball (not that there's anything wrong with that)

******kicks over bin as he leaves the room to get out the boxing gloves and take out his frustration on the bag*******

I love how almost everything on here becomes a battle to the death between balmain and wests supporters.

Best just not to get involved Fraze lol.

Both sides of the fence should just be happy we still have a team to follow, could have disappeared altogether like the NS Bears.

Heritage is relevant - or do you also scream at the old blokes clogging up our TV screens every ANZAC day.
Your argument is kinda Orwellian - "We are the Wests Tigers and we have always been the Wests Tigers". - well that aint true. And people have a right to voice concerns/gripes etc without all this aggro BS.

this backward thinking I hope does not hamper our future.

comments about the balmain area being dead are as foolish as the idiots that claim everyone from cambelltown is a dole bludger….. neither is true.
\

like it or not neither side could stand on their own, Balmain did not have the juniors, Wests did not have the money or a big enough fan base, together it works.

Just about everything that the original poster said was a load of crap

Wow - that is the best verballing I've been subjected to for a long time - well done. You should be in politics, media or the courts. And my argument being 'kind Orwellian'…..... :roll

Not sure what Anzac Day has to do with anything here champ? I really fail to see the similarities in any sense -but I'll play along - you see, Australian Diggers and those that cheer for them do not post hate filled posts on forums declaring the right of another country to glorify their war heroes. They don't try to discredit or denigrate the 'other ' side - unlike old mate here. I don't see NZ soldiers or their families and frineds trying to denigrate the Australian soldiers with whom they fought. And taking it even further, by celebrating the Anzac tradition - your argument seems to suggest that by cheering our ANZACS we are somehow making our Australian heratage irrelvant?

And please highlight where I said heritage wasn't relavent champ? It was the brainchild declaring the Balmain heritage is dead and buried - NOT I. I was simply making that point that if old mate wants to carry on with that type of 'us and them' crap, go to the magpies forum and have a blast. This is a Wests Tigers forum that has a section for the Magpies and Balmin sides.

And I certainly didn't say 'we re the wests togers and have always been the wests tigers' so please keep me out of your misguided self serving verballing.

Any person who tries to denigrate either side of the Merger for their own musguided self serving sop boxing - as far as I'm concerned - can rack off and go and do it somewhere else. Leave the rest of us Wests TIgers fans alone to enjoy eachothers company, and discuss our thoughts views and opinions on the Wests Tigers in a constructive , enjoyable forum environment.

yeap losing your team is painful I was a Brisbane Wests supporter and to see them die after winning 4 premierships in 16 years was dissappointing and still remember us getting thrown out in 83 Wests magpies was as devastating
