Wests Tigers A.B.

Wests Tigers After Benji

He's about to turn 27, he has maybe 5 seasons left…give or take a season or two.
Will they all be with us?
We need to win at least one premiership again in that time...at the bare minimum, its a MUST!!
More, yes please.

I find it hard to imagine the team without him...I know Ive waffled on before like this, but we are so very privileged...we are witnessing our club legend with our own eyes, in 50 60 70 years time he'll be talked about by our grandkids and great grand kids in the same breath as guys like Churchill, Raper, Messenger is now....and thats just on the field, as a human being he's up their with our quality blokes of Mark O'Neill & Brett Hodgson...all class. :master:

He's really something else.

some teams take along while to recover when one of their unpredictable main playmakers leave.
I would be extremely envious of him, if I did not support west-tigers.

When you stop and realy think about it, for him to be the player he is today given the amount of setbacks he's had throughout the early part of his career is nothing short of amazing. That would have broken many players. Him, along with Farah will be two guys who we probably won't realy greatly appreciate till they are gone. Reminds me of that old saying 'you don't realize what you have till its gone'

not all of us GNR, i realize now, what im witnessing is once in a lifetime and I'm making the most of it as we speak. see ya at Gosford.

Benji is somewhat different when it comes about replacing him… At the moment, we do 'work' the team around him, but what makes Benji so great is his individual brilliance. I don't think his own team mates know what he is gona do half the time...

With this being the case, Benji is very much replaceable. With a few tweaks here and there, a dominant Tigers Team can still be achieved.

In the meantime, Enjoy the ride!

Hopefully we keep making the semis, win a couple of gf's so the young kids of the day become wt's which would hopefully 'set' us up for the future.
While some players may go down as more skillful, none will be more entertaining.
Hopefully we have the next best halfback in our system to lead us around in the 2018 seasonish

A few years ago there was a rumour doing the rounds that Benji was about to do a Sonny Bill and take off mid season to cash in on a lucrative Union deal. At the time he was struggling, living off 05 and not doing well at all. My initial reaction when i heard the rumour was, "hope he goes"….........we all make errors in judgement, but id say thats been my biggest regarding footy.

As for life after Benji......well it may be hard but an article in todays paper sums it up well......when one superstar leaves another comes through. Maybe not another Benji, but.........

Your certainly right that we need to win another premiership while he's here....he deserves it more than anyone

The great thing about league their will be another freak just around the corner. Just lets hope we discover him first

The last few years watching Benji develop and grow and mature and flourish has been nothing short of watching sporting history unfold.

My dad used to talk to me about the greate of League like Beetson, Raper, Kenny etc when I was a little boy, and I never really quite got it. Now I get it, and am already catching myself telling the same stories now -

"Remember when Benji single handedly brought us back from the dead against Newcastle?" Remember when he etc.. etc.."

I wholeheartedly agree with you Ink, We will be discussing Benji in 30-40-50 years time much like the way people discuss the likes of Donald Bradman. And to think we'll have been lucky enough to witness the entirety of it.

I have never enjoyed watching football more then when Benji started playing for us, he could possibly go on for another 7 years & i hope he does. Sure he makes mistakes but what joy he has brought me as a Wests Tigers supporter, those who dont like him as a player or a person are jealous of him & only wish they had him in their team, so lets sit back & enjoy his talents.

He is the most incredible player of my lifetime. Very much replaceable? We would be lucky to make the eight with the likes of campese/soward replacing him. He single handedly wins games for us, he creates the difference in the tough games eg first semi v drag queens last year. Unless we find a Shaun Johnson in the next 3 or so years we will find ourselves in the wilderness come 5 years from now

Benji doesn't dominate off the ball or control everything from a team perspective like the likes of Lockyer or Johns… He ignites something from nothing. This is what makes him so exciting and sometimes unbelievable to watch.

If Benji was to move on/retire, we would need to make some changes, but not as much as those teams who rely so heavily on their superstars and build 'everything' around them.

Mis-kicking a ball, regathering and putting on points isnt something we need to replace... That was simply Marshall Magic!

just think how many highlights are left for him to produce.

it's possible he will end up with around 2 hours of highlights when he hangs up the boots.

pretty insane

I tend to think he has the same overall influence as johns or lockyer but he does it differently. If he is off the ball you watch the fb and wingers getting jittery, and that creates space for others, he plays a different game, one that Barba and Johnson emulate. He is still a flamboyant something from nothing player but as he has matured he has shown himself, when in top form, to be quite methodical. I think though when he plays within himself for 50% of the game, and let's loose the other half, we tend to win

awesome stuff

Benji has more mistakes in him than any other champion, and thats why i believe he'll end up under appreciated by other teams supporters. The modern day greats like Johns and Lockyer didnt make so many errors, but at the same time, they couldnt do the amazing things Benji does when he's on fire. For me, even with his errors, Benji is above Lockyer, but currently below Johns.

He might get pinned as inconsistent by manly and at st George types, but guys I know that support Canberra, parra, warrior (obviously) would have him over any otHer player in a heart beat. Our game is changing to a more flamboyant style, and in 10 or 20 years it will be benji as the one who remembered for changing the way the game is played. In todays game I wouldn't have best form johns over benji. He has more ticker than johns, and he showed Lockyer is was time to retire. IMO farah makes more mistakes but is still the second best hooker in the game

He will be the greatest Wests Tiger ever .

How lucky are we to have him, he came along at just the right time to cement two teams with a wealth of history between them, his only allegiance to the Mighty Wests Tigers

Don't want to think about the day he retires, hopefully it is at ANZ stadium in late September early October in the year ????

Love ya Benji
