They were Madge's assistants for NZ. Definitely prefer Cayless over Flanagan. Gardiner has also been great for NSW cup. Looks like Madge is actually getting the support he wants rather than Assistants picked by the club which is a good move IMO.

Time will tell if this is the right move or not.

He picked the last two assistants

He obviously respects them and they respect him.

The previous guys? I'm sure he does, but they were hopeless.

I've heard Cayless was very highly regarded amongst the younger Kiwis and Islanders in general at the Chooks which the Tigers have a fair amount of both.

It’s a bit confusing Maguire bought both Collins an Millard to the Club having worked with the before … so looked on as his yes men ..

Yet Maguire also bought Gardiner to the Club and now Cayless having worked with them before .. yet somehow… hmmmm

Doesn't seem like an overly positive change does it.

Can we get a positive response from anything that happens at Wests tigers?

Sign Hodgo or Api and move on Liddle 64 games in 6 years would be a positive response
Give Simpkin a go from bench

Patience and it should soon happen with one of them (not Api).

Api si no chance.

Some of the comments, seriously. The club could appoint Bennett and Bellamy as joint head coaches and it wouldnt be good enough.

I’d be very happy with Bennett and Bellamy as joint head coaches

yes big difference to Madge with Gardiner and Cayless

Cayless is coming from a strong club (as an assistant coach, not a player 😂)

Surely he will guide the team how to tighten things up defensively.

Not the worst.

NZ coaching crew 😂
Upgrade on the old souths coaching crew.

Good to see Gardiner rewarded with promotion. He built a good report with his KOE squad last year and looks a real players coach.
Will be keen to see if he and Cayless can help to engage the FG players and work with Maguire to get them to play more inspired.
Hopefully they can find someone as competent as Gardiner to replace him in KOE.

Wonder if we'll see a few of the KOE stand outs make the jump too....

(No thanks to Cini though)

To be fair, the NZ team has been humming under Madge when they've actually been able to play. Brandon Smith, for example, broke out as a hooker while playing for NZ.

Indeed.

Top tier cattle though.
Hopefully that coaching group translates well to our squad and we can see some results on field.

At the end of the day they report to Madge, and they’re there to assist so it makes no sense to hire someone that might undermine what Madge is doing.

They decided to keep Maguire so they need to be focused on setting him up for success.

Everyone seems to love Gardner.

Is his first name Raymond?

Who said humour is dead on this forum # dad joke central.

At least it's done - Congrats to Gardiner - well deserved based on how Wests performed during KOE. As for Cayless, well I can only hope he's an upgrade on the two blokes who were deservedly let go.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but who was the guy in the doco who sat in the coaches box and was caught on camera multiple times on his mobile?
Is he still employed here?
