Do the Wests Tigers have a future in the NRL?
This is not a negative "doomsday" post. I am a genuine Wests Tigers fan & have real concerns about our teams' future.
I would assume the NRL & Wests have already discussed plans & options for a Wests Tigers future with no Balmain involved.
Balmain side of the merger owes millions to the NRL & has insufficient current revenue streams to meet it's financial obligations. Balmain owes borrowed millions to the NRL & currently has no voting power. If Balmain can't pay it's bills in a year or two half owner Wests Magpies can buy out or look for a new half-share partner. Wests Magpies Ashfield may not want the responsibility of full ownership & the financial burden of paying all costs to run the team & it is doubtful a new partner would want to pump money into an NRL team with little or negative financial return.
Uncertainty over where to play home games & base team training is also a concern.
Wests Leagues Ashfield may cut ties with the the NRL & concentrate on the Wests Magpies team in the NSW state completion. The NRL may then consider a new "Tigers" club & owner in the Central Coast or Perth or a "Tigers" team may cease to play in the NRL.
Current Wests Tigers sponsor Meriton boss Harry Triguboff as a half or full owner is a possibility but given his mature age there would have to be binding financial guarantees for years to come. Mr Triguboff might buy & develop the Balmain Tigers Club Rozelle site & build a new clubhouse with hopefully profitable poker machine revenue possibly guaranteeing the Balmain Tigers future as a half-share owner with the Magpies.
All comments & ideas are welcome.
