Wests Tigers/Balmain Future in Doubt?

Do the Wests Tigers have a future in the NRL?

This is not a negative "doomsday" post. I am a genuine Wests Tigers fan & have real concerns about our teams' future.

I would assume the NRL & Wests have already discussed plans & options for a Wests Tigers future with no Balmain involved.

Balmain side of the merger owes millions to the NRL & has insufficient current revenue streams to meet it's financial obligations. Balmain owes borrowed millions to the NRL & currently has no voting power. If Balmain can't pay it's bills in a year or two half owner Wests Magpies can buy out or look for a new half-share partner. Wests Magpies Ashfield may not want the responsibility of full ownership & the financial burden of paying all costs to run the team & it is doubtful a new partner would want to pump money into an NRL team with little or negative financial return.

Uncertainty over where to play home games & base team training is also a concern.

Wests Leagues Ashfield may cut ties with the the NRL & concentrate on the Wests Magpies team in the NSW state completion. The NRL may then consider a new "Tigers" club & owner in the Central Coast or Perth or a "Tigers" team may cease to play in the NRL.

Current Wests Tigers sponsor Meriton boss Harry Triguboff as a half or full owner is a possibility but given his mature age there would have to be binding financial guarantees for years to come. Mr Triguboff might buy & develop the Balmain Tigers Club Rozelle site & build a new clubhouse with hopefully profitable poker machine revenue possibly guaranteeing the Balmain Tigers future as a half-share owner with the Magpies.

All comments & ideas are welcome.

How many of these threads do we really need? Granted its been a few weeks but the context hasn't changed, thus neither have the arguments/speculation.

Leave it for another 6-9 months, let's see what happens in Rozelle, and take things from there. No need to get our knickers in a knot, and any suggestion of Perth should just be deleted immediately as it's not going to happen!

**Balmain repayment deadline is 31 March 2016** & I assume Wests Ashfield & the NRL already know what will transpire with Balmain.

This quote is from outgoing Wests Tigers Chairman Mike Bailey…. (see link below) or page 4 from WESTS ASHFIELD Dec-Feb 2015 members magazine.
"... **_Balmain_** _has nominated two Directors, but they will not take their places on the Board until their group becomes financial in respect of **money that is already owed to Wests Tigers and further contributions which will be required to be made prior to 31 March 2016.**
**The NRL will provide funding for Balmain up to that date, but not beyond.**
**This means that they have less than 18 months** to provide catch-up and ongoing monies required for the operations of Wests Tigers, and **if they can’t meet that deadline then Wests will have the first option to buy out their football debt or seek a new investment partner"**_**.**

IMO the time to question Wests Tigers future & options is yesterday…

RE: possible Balmain Tigers new club at Rozelle….
SMH article Nov 30, 2014
**" ... Rozelle Village's director, Mr Wright, said the proposed zoning would make it "impossible" for the club to return.....\
\
"Under a new agreement it signed in August, the club's right to lease any future premises at the Victoria Road address may also be terminated if development consent is not granted by a "sunset date" of November 29 next year (2015)".** http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/leichhardt-council-moves-to-bring-balmain-tigers-back-down-to-earth-20141130-11wfu8.html

The gap is Balmain have until that time to make up the money and that would include selling thier share which I am 100% sure they would do rather then allow Wests to buy it. This means the Balmain share could be offered either to someone like Harry and / or other investors to buy a share of the club like many other clubs which have been privatised. The other option is a public offering of shares which as an old Balmain fan is my preferred option

But Wests get first dibs. Balmain can't refuse if Wests want to buy them out.

Feel sorry for you from the Balmain side and can truly say have been down that road before with less empathy from other fans,

Don"t want revisionism hope Balmain hold up their end just hope we are not called the black and golds.

Maybe we will even be called Wests as much as say Canterbury,

Trust me the Wests side will give no rights away,

When I'm feeling down and busted, I log on to the forum and read the latest 'Balmain are broke and it won't be long and we will be called the Wests Magpies again' thread.

Its then that I see there are so many less fortunate idiots in the world than me…

I feel better now.

Calling fade to black…fade to black come in please your presence is require in this thread thank you

Happy,I hope he does,a man with his bank account can certainly take a punt on developing apartments on the site and giving the Tiges a new club…

All he has to do is use his influence, just like uncle Eddie O...

He really is passionate about the WTs and you never know, the Messiah could be coming....

An interesting sentence in Wikipedia on Harrys business ideals.

Triguboff has been married twice and has two daughters from his first marriage: Orna and Sharon. He is still married to his second wife, Rhonda.[4] He lives in Sydney and owns a collection of cars. **He never enters any business partnerships nor joint ventures[/b=**

I know someone who works for Harry. Heard his a massive douchebag. Then again, being in the top 300 richest people in the world does that to some people..

Either way I'm happy to have him on board. Who ever said money can't buy happiness….

I find it fascinating so many people have opinions on how HE should spend HIS money, how much HE should tip etc etc
People reckon Souths & Dogs fans are massive dropkicks…this thread - and Triguboff thread - proves we are right up there with them

Last thing the nrl wants is a team like ours splitting , getting 1/2 sold off etc , they would much prefer that it got fixed up , as for Harry if he wants to help out he can but if he doesn't that's just bad luck it's his cash

What could the balmain half of the JV possibly offer the Wests Tigers?
Grew up supporting the Tigers but couldn't give an Adam Blair what happens to them now.
With friends like those, who needs friends.
