Wests Tigers opened their account in the Toyota Cup competition tonight with a hard fought 34-22 victory over the Warriors at a wet Leichhardt Oval.

It was a strong win for Head Coach Grant Jones and his team against the reigning premiers.

Wests Tigers full-back Ratu Tagive picked up a loose kick and race 60 metres downfield in the 12th minute before losing the ball.

A minute later, Wests Tigers half-back Liam Ayoub picked up a loose pass and raced 60 metres to score and in doing so, possibly tore a left hamstring.

Five-eighth Jacob Miller converted the try for a 6-0 lead after 15 minutes.

Two minutes later, replacement half Matt Evans was put through a gap to score under the posts. Miller converted the try for a 12-0 lead.

Wests Tigers centre Tim Simona stretched the lead in the wet conditions to 16-0 after good support play with winger Faleula Finau. Miller converted from 10 metres from the posts for a handy 18-0 lead against the premiers after 30 minutes.

The Warriors opened their account when big forward Siliva Havili used his strength to push his way over from dummy half in the 38th minute.
Winger Sio failed to convert from close range for an 18-4 scoreline.
It remained that way until half-time.

2ND Half
A smart cross kick on the last tackle by Evans saw Tagive leap high to take the ball to score 10 metres from the posts for a 22-4 scoreline.
Evans converted the try for a 24-4 lead after 48 minutes.

The Warriors then hit back immediately with a very soft try out wide to centre James Te Pou for a 24-8

A short pass by Warriors five-eighth Carlos Tuimavave put forward Agnatius Passi into a gap to score next to the posts. Siua Taukeiaho converted the try for a 24-14 scoreline after 60 minutes.

Wests Tigers centre Tim Simona gave his side some more breathing space when he scored in the corner from a scrum win for a 28-14 lead after 63 minutes.
Miller converted from inside the sideline for a 30-14 lead.

Three minutes later, the Warriors hit back with a second try to James Te Pou for a 30-18 scoreline. The Warriors were in again a few minutes later when Passi scored his second in the left corner for a 30-22 scoreline.

Wests Tigers secured victory when winger Faleula Finau dived over in the corner in the 75th minute. Miller again converted for a 34-22 full-time score.
