WESTS Tigers have been hit with ultimate insult following last weekend's controversial loss to Canterbury - a $500 fine for Benji Marshall taking too long to attempt a conversion.

Tigers CEO Steve Humphreys was "gobsmacked" when he received the petty punishment this week, with his players still reeling from two dubious calls that cost them a season-defining victory.

The development comes as skipper Robbie Farah accused referees' boss Bill Harrigan of "losing the plot" over the obstruction mess, which sparked a week-long autopsy into how the Bulldogs were awarded their final try when Josh Morris clearly impeded Tigers opposite Blake Ayshford.

Farah's blood is also boiling over Harrigan's refusal to acknowledge he grounded the ball for a second half try, but his fury was compounded when the Marshall fine was issued.

According to the breach notice, Marshall went 15 seconds overtime while attempting to convert Marika Koroibete's 44th minute try. To add insult to injury, the unsuccessful kick ultimately proved the difference on the final 23-22 golden point scoreboard.

"I can confirm we've received a $500 breach notice over Benji taking 15 seconds too long with his conversion," Humphreys said. "It's probably fair to say I was gobsmacked when it arrived. It's come as a slap in the face after the crucial decisions that went against us, one of which (obstruction) has now been declared incorrect on review.

"I've responded to the NRL and asked them to consider the circumstances of the game."

NRL operations boss Nathan McGuirk defended the breach notice as "mandatory".

Humphreys also revealed Tim Sheens had this week sought extensive clarification from Harrigan, who also took the unprecedented step of distributing a personally produced DVD to all 16 clubs to "dispel confusion" over the obstruction rule.

Farah believes experts and fans alike have lost complete confidence in Harrigan.

"Bill is losing the plot and doesn't know what's going on," Farah said.

You'd think if Sheens said this, itd be ten grand

Anyone get the feeling we might not get too many of the 50/50 calls today

I think someone (behind the scenes) has said something early in the week to the NRL and they have decided to flex their muscles

Greatest game of all being run by a bunch of clowns. How about you sort out the inconsistent ruling's by the refs's/judiciary first, before fining a club for a kicker taking 15 seconds to long. Hopefully they start by Sacking Harrigan & appointing the best candidate to replace Gallop & not some puppet being controlled by Grant, but I won't be holding my breath.

I suggested similar to this in the Final result thread yesterday and was accused of having a victim mentality for losers.

going to be interesting to see how the game pans out, in relation to ref's decisions.

Completely ridiculous. The NRL is becoming a joke. In one week we have seen us dudded by a ref call, the Broncos dudded by a ref call, Minichiello takes someones head off and gets 0 weeks and now this.

It IS a victim mentality, going into something before its even occurred, thinking we wont get a fair go
Its a pathetic mentality….one which will not take you far at all.
Golden, he has this attitude, woe is us, they fluke it, faiders got lucky, we get screwed.

Guess what?

Good teams take all that out of the equation, they make things work for themselves, dont rely on others that make decision or other teams results to affect them.

God help us if the players thought like this

Sorry Ink if I am shying at shadows at the moment …..

But a few things that have happened since last Friday that don't add up in not just my mind but many others even at other clubs and other fans

It is like the NRL is saying " know your place or we will make your life even harder"

With the $500 fine after everything that happened on Friday night ... someone at the Tigers I reckon has given the NRL a mouthful

And the siege mentality you talk about , a lot of clubs use it Manly in the NRL , Collingwood in the Gayfl No reason we can't use it either Mate I don't care how we make the eight as long as we are their

Haha….$500 is going to make life harder for us?

I thought we were doing it tough, didnt think it was that bad tho....

I meant harder in the phsyical sense ,on the field

But the point I was really trying to make is the siege mentality

We could really use it to our advantage over the next few weeks

Let's worry about the Roosters game and not dwell on a game that we had our chances to win. We all know we got ripped off and The Refs eyes are painted on, but let's move on and put away the Roosters And Storm.

why the bloody hell are we asking to not pay the $500 fine? benji took more time, his fault.. considering the circumstances? OH PLEASE.. the obstruction call was waay after the kick

as for the mentality, for once i wanna see tigers go with the mentality that we are being treated unfairly and we're gonna do something about it. the des hasler technique

Yeh yeh, fo sho….turn a negative into a positive, I like it.
We need all we can get.

Im sure there are dozens of these piddly lil fines each season, circumstances with us make this one newsworthy

Its far from the greatest game of all anymore .
I went to some junior grand finals in the canterbury comp yesterday (lidcombe oval) and i watched a team get crucified by a referee and touch judge.OnE SIDE LED 18-0 THEN 18=6 AT THE BREAK , they only had the ball for 3 sets in the second half and were penalised 8times in the second half to nil .one penalty was blown whils in posession on the first tackle , but the big one came at 22=18 with two to go , sporties scored a legitimate try and the ref was going to award it but the touchie ran in to say the player had knocked on ,and he clearly did not , the video showed a clear try . so if the boys in pink can take away a grand final from team why would it be any different in nrl .

As a sporting spectacle, IMO there is no sport that comes close to League but it's our administration that let's the game down. I'n no fan of Afl but it appears from the outside looking in that their game is run more professional.
