WESTS TIGERS BLITZ TO VISIT 3 REGIONS
20/01/2012 10:30:54 AM

Wests Tigers players will soon embark on three massive School Blitzes to help promote junior rugby league and a healthy lifestyle.

A ‘Come and Try Rugby League Clinic’ featuring Wests Tigers NRL players will be held at Loseby Park, Bowral, on Monday, January 30, from 4pm-6pm, as part of a Southern Highlands Blitz.

The free clinic is open to children aged 4-18\. Participants to register at 3.30pm. Each participant will receive a free footy and will have the opportunity to register with their junior rugby league clubs.

To register, go to [www.Arldevelopment.com/group6](http://www.Arldevelopment.com/group6) before Saturday, January 28 to ensure your child’s place in the clinic.

Alternatively, call ARL Development Officer Jake Brightwell on 0448 890 017 or Country Rugby League Development Officer Scott Borg on 0409 814 873.

The following day, Tuesday, January 31, Wests Tigers players will visit several schools in the Southern Highlands region to promote healthy lifestyle and playing junior rugby league. Students will also receive Wests Tigers showbags.

Schools to be visited include Wollondilly Anglican College; Hill Top PS; Colo Vale PS; St Thomas Aquinas; Bowral PS; Mittagong PS; St Michael Mittagong; Moss Vale PS; Moss Vale HS and
Robertson PS.

In February, the annual Wests Tigers School Blitz will again see players visit more than 25,000 children in the Balmain region (Monday, February 6) and Macarthur/Liverpool region (Monday, February 13) as part of the Club’s ongoing commitment to their junior rugby league areas.

Each student will receive a Wests Tigers showbag and have the chance to see the players up close.

The visit to the Macarthur region co-incides with the opening of the new Wests Tigers Gearzone store at Macarthur Square and the Wests Tigers trial match against the Sydney Roosters at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Saturday, February 18.

I wonder what's in the showbag? Some free tickets I hope, at least for the trial game. Or failing that, a coupon for a free drink at the game. Come to think of it, we should be doing that for all our games. Anyone under 16 gets a voucher for a free drink (soft drink of course). Sorry to wander off topic slightly, just typing as I think!

Anyway 25,000 students is a massive effort in a month. Congrats to all involved.

Credit where credit is due.

Keep up the good work Wests Tigers!

Its the little things like this that really helps win hearts and minds.

I played cricket with a guy once who was known as "showbags"

We had an apprentice who was aptly named Showbag.

Probably for the same reason Alf

Probably vouchers or something linked to sponsors products…AMF Bowling was a common thing in these though dunno if theyre still a sponsor

Well done WTs and hopefully the Wests Jnr clubs get behind this as well

Its a shame some schools dont see the benefits of these healthy living visits.....my sons old primary (well more spercifically the crusty old principal) in the balmain district never was interested despit me alerting her to these visits year after year

That's very disappointing. Even if you didn't like league or sport surely you can see the benefits of encouraging healthy living. Having kids training or playing sport is certainly better than them getting up to something illegal… These paths often get their start at primary school especially in the later years.

I never liked school teachers when I was at school and I still don't. I think they come from another Planet!!

Obviously never in my class Flash! Sometimes generalisations hurt people's feelings 😢

😢 Don't they just…

Glad to see the boys out and about. Pity I didn't get that job I applied for at Moss Vale PS ... I don't think they'll come to Canowindra. I think the Panthers on the Prowl come out to Central Western NSW though.

I have volunteered to help pack some of those 25,000 showbags. I hope there are heaps of volunteers otherwise its going to be a very loooong day.

Well done on the volunteer work Gotoddy. I wish I could help out. But I have signed my young bloke up for the one at the oval in Bowral. He cannot wait!!! Hopefully some of the bigger name players will be there.

Good on the Tigers, I wish that they would travel 5 hours down to my kids school. I'd be knocking the kids down to be first in line.

The Tigers are taking almost the entire squad and coaching staff down to Mittagong.
They will be training in the morning with the above mentioned clinics and visits in the afternoon.
Monday Kids Clinic in Bowral and Tuesday Kids school visits.

It's good this sort of grassroots stuff is being done early in the year because I for one think it could only disrupt training.

Anyone taking their kids to the coaching clinic tomorrow? Should be good. Spoke to the ARL Development officer and he said the top 25 squad will be there. Wasnt sure if Benji and Blair would be there as they may have All Stars commitments.

Also anyone heading to the game against Wests Illawarra on Saturday night? Good to see the Tigers heading out to country league areas.

Well done Tigers…
