WESTS Tigers centre Chris Lawrence believes the NRL club can overcome their increasing number of injuries to make this year's finals.

The Tigers sit eighth after Monday's defeat to North Queensland in Townsville, their fourth loss in five matches.

And coach Tim Sheens is struggling to put together a team for this weekend's clash with the in-form South Sydney after Lawrence (ankle), young half Curtis Sironen (shoulder), Tim Moltzen (hamstring) and Ben Murdoch-Masila (ankle) were all injured against the Cowboys.

Superstar Benji Marshall is also in doubt for the Rabbitohs clash with toe and thumb injuries but is expected to be fit to play.

Lawrence's worst fears were confirmed on Wednesday when he was ruled out for up to six weeks but he believes his teammates have shown they are capable of keeping their season alive.

"We've got good depth at the club, we've shown that previously … the young guys have been playing really well in the lower grades so whoever gets the opportunity I'm sure will step up,'' said Lawrence.

The Tigers will face a Souths team without star fullback Greg Inglis, who received a three game ban for his shoulder charge on St George Illawarra's Dean Young last weekend, but Lawrence believes the red-hot Bunnies can't be taken lightly.

"They've got Nathan Merritt who's been playing great footy and probably plays even better when he's at fullback,'' Lawrence said.

"They're losing nothing with Nathan Merritt there.''

Chris Lawrence backs his team-mates to get the job done

Injured Wests Tigers centre Chris Lawrence has backed his team-mates to turn things around against the South Sydney Rabbitohs despite the Club suffering a heavy injury toll against the North Queensland Cowboys on Monday night.

Lawrence will be sidelined for up to six weeks with a high ankle sprain but the 23-year-old still has confidence in the rest of the squad to get the job done as they fight for a position in the top eight. Wests Tigers sit in eighth place with five teams breathing down their neck.

“When you set a challenge I think it brings all the team closer and it brings the Club closer so it’s definitely a challenge for each individual there and for the senior guys that are still in the team it’s a good chance for everyone to step up,” he said this morning.

“The young guys in the NSW Cup and Under 20s have been playing really well and I’m sure they’re itching to get their opportunity and I’m sure they’ll do a good job when they step up.”

Lawrence also said that he his 100% focused on a quick rehabilitation.

“The doctor’s telling me six weeks but obviously I’ll be doing everything I can to try and get back a week or two early,'' Lawrence said.

"For the next week or two anyway it’s just about trying to let the injury heal and then after two or three weeks as long as I keep vigilant with the rehab, I’ll probably know from there."
