Wests Tigers Captaincy Statement...

:crazy Ballin was set to be captain of Manly reserve grade team and some of you want him to waltz in and take over as our first grade captain?
All things being equal he wouldn't see first grade for us unless there were injuries to the two hookers already here.

Aaron Woods as captain would be a very backward step. He is one player not suited for captaincy. Let him concentrate only on playing his natural game.

Woods, Brooks or Moses.

None of the above for me. Dene or Chris would be more suitable. :supporter:
But in saying that, it might be just what Woodsy needs to make him grow up a bit.

Woods is the only one in the mix with a practically guaranteed position. Lawrence would be perfect and played well last year, but is a potential risk with form/injury.

It will be Woods with a potential co-captain of Lawrence.

p.s. So great to be talking about Lawrence in this respect again. Nearly all of us had him written off a year ago, but I for one hope he is re-signed as a 2nd rower.

This might sound weird but I think Tim Simona might be the best suited to the job. He seems to be a down to Earth dude, everybody seems to like him, he has a mortgage on his spot and doesn't ever create negative press.

I think he has an issue with consistency. You need someone who leads by example week in, week out.

Well it seems to me from the posts here that there is no real complete alternative to Robbie as captain - hope you don't mind me saying. Surely not Tedesco - the form player and still a youngster.

Lawrence by the length of Conrod Straight.

He's got the brains, the demeanour, does not have a reputation of having a whinge, and he is squeaky clean off the field.

Plus he's becoming a reliable strong backrower.

He's also still relatively young for having the experience he has, despite his injuries (27).

I'd love to see him captain but I'm not sure he is a definite starter every week. I think Lawrence, Tedesco, Moses and Simona are all good choices.

Chris Lawrence would be mine pick as captain only if he packs into the second row.

Not convinced Woods is captain material but is a great player and will miss games due to State of Origin.

Reason I quoted these three is that they seem to be the players we are rebuilding our club around. Reason I did not put Teddy in the mix is that I don't see him as a good communicator. I think it is important for the club to show their faith in one of these three.

There's only one Robbie I'm afraid….

To me Brooks is a bit too quite, while Mosses has a bit of a mouth on him and will tend to put us offside with the refs. Woodsy needs to mature a bit more in my opinion. I've seen Teddy been interviewed before, he speaks well and comes across as a well educated young man with a good head on his shoulders. Apart from Woodsy, the others you mentioned including Teddy, lack experience and would have to wait their turn.
Just my 5 cents worth  But who ever gets the Captaincy i hope they do us proud.

But with Lawrence also being told to look elsewhere it would make sense to have a longer term view which would be Woods imo at this stage.

For me, Lawrence is the standout choice. He has carried himself with dignity after being told to look elsewhere, hasn't dumped on the club or coach, and has always kept his own counsel with regards to the 'politics' around the club. He has the necessary experience and would certainly have the respect of his peers. Yes, it may only be for a year or two, but it would give Woods or someone else the time they need to mature into the role.

Woodsy doesn't play 80mins most games so Taylor could emphasise that Lawrence is captain when woods is off. Make both of the lads happy without a co-captain arrangment.
