Penrith's COE cost about 22 million, Raiders new COE cost about 20. 42 or whatever it is for us buys us a facility that will surpass every other NRL club. Make no mistake, with a changing culture and improving playing roster, this facility will help attract players to the club, and benefit the juniors coming through.

How much of the total cost is the COE? The COE is only a part of the development.

Not sure - the article is a bit misleading as it says 75 mil, and then 42 mil on the COE...IF that is the case we've done extremely well but from all reports when this is finished, we will have the best facilities in the NRL.

Yeah, the numbers seem to change with every article. Freo got a $109m facility built that opened in 2017, best in the country supposedly. Since then they've come 14th,14th,13th,12th.
They have a culture problem that a gym couldn't change.

On the point you make about Freo, you also have to look at the way we've recruited some top junior talent recently - I think our pathways program should be effective, there's some good local talent coming through, but we've also done exceptionally well signing some top kiwi talent whilst sneaking under the noses of some other NRL clubs in poaching talent. Not all will play FG obviously, but I think there's enough there so see our juniors will perform strongly and we're in good hands.

I certainly hope so, I'm optimistic that the football/ recruitment team that has been put together is quality.

I rate the guys we have in those roles.

If the ANZ revamp to a rectangular format gets back on track would be the final piece of the puzzle.

I think that is now at least 10-15 years away, maybe more.

I reckon it would be a total rebuild then aswell.

Yeah you would hope so, stadium will be 30-40 years old by then.

Does Sydney need a stadium that big? Is the SFS big enough for the city?

I think a 70-80k stadium is needed for Grand Finals and SOO, but it should be an event stadium only. I would like to see a 30k stadium at homebush as well and that would be perfect for us. I think the SFS should have been limited to 40k max as I don't really see the need for it to be so big.

I don't know. I think it could be a joint ground like the MCG is for the AFL teams. It's far more accessible than the SFS and more central to all of the Sydney basin so I don't see why it couldn't be a regular use 80K seater.

That is fine if they are rebuilding it but they aren't. ANZ is fine for the big events, just put a 30-40k rectangular stadium at Olympic Park for regular games as well.

Yeah that's fair enough. Maybe they could demolish the showground and turn that into a 40K stadium. The BWS Giants struggle to fill it.

I wonder what’s planned for Leichardt Oval?

Mayor Darcy Byrne says he has been in talks about an upgrade.

I think he already missed the opportunity, when funding for suburban grounds was first mentioned LO was the 1st ground mentioned, the government was talking about full upgrades and rebuilds and good old Darcy comes out and say something along the lines of some new seat would great for LO

It won’t get any cash from the government because it’s too close to SFS rebuild, and ANZ.
WT best chance is a new stadium at Campbelltown, hopefully seating more than 20,000 people.

It's $75 million now too? The figure keeps changing.... Wonder what the breakdown is of the various sources.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. I haven't seen what they are doing, but $75m seems cheap to what I was imagining?

What are you imagining?

Well, I seen photo's of digging up the oval, new drainage, resurface etc isn't cheep.

I was thinking grandstand, clubhouse and gym facilities, the price is just lower than I expected, I was thinking $100-150m, minimum.

A COE should be the showpiece of the club.

But if they are getting what they want, good deal.

It was advertised as being $51 Million earlier this year

Yep, I must admit I didn’t see PJ,s original post.
Just didn’t seem a lot of money, I hope it is something we will be proud of.
Great news it has started.

For perspective, the Penrith Panthers COE was only $22m, and this is how it turned out:
