Wests Tigers Centre of Excellence

So the DA for the COE was lodged a few months back, with a value of $51.5 million.

Looks like Madge will be working out of one of 6 demountables for up to the next 2 years at the cost of a further million bucks. Maybe that's cheaper than renting somewhere completely separate for a couple of years.

Let's hope construction starts soon!

$51.5m?? would we have the most expensive COE in the comp? isn't everybody saying that Brisbane's is around $30m?

Brisbane and Penrith have the best facilities by far ... just goes to show it doesn't mean everything.

That's the total build of the community centre/ facilities.

Not at all, but this is also stage one of the plan. Long term there's more expansion opportunities, but one step at a time. Also we only have a chunk of the facility, most of the centre will be open to the community.

I'm just not sure i like the sound of our CEO and head coach doing all their work out of demountables alongside a construction site. A temporary office space for 1-2 years would seem more professional, but there's also a cost factor involved. I'm not sure if we'll still be training at the surrounding Concord ovals while the construction takes place too.

Just a guess but we'll probably be training from Leichhardt Oval whilst this is being built and offices might be somewhere in Ashfield as snake mentioned.

WT currently have a one million dollar development application with canada bay council for 6 demountables to be put up at Concord Oval for a period of up to 2 years.

Not sure why we wouldn't use Leichhardt and office space nearby.

Well that's just dumb - the demountables decision.

Nine NRL clubs are fighting for high-performance superiority through Centres of Excellence which are worth a whopping combined total of $252 million.

Wests Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe outlined his club’s plans to build a Centre of Excellence on the Concord Oval site.

The Tigers will be housed in demountable buildings until the main complex is completed and opened at the end of 2021 or beginning of 2022.

“The proposed development is based on an exemplar model, bringing together elite sport, a community group with impeccable credentials in delivering facilities and programs to benefit the community and local government,” Pascoe said.

“The model delivers outstanding facilities, efficiencies across multiple users, a focus on sustainability, and commercial opportunities for the club which were previously out of reach.

“Inner West Central will be a hub of activity in the region, and a destination for elite sport, pathway sport and the community alike.

“The proposed design is future proofed and will allow the club to truly establish itself as a force in the NRL and affiliate competitions, on and off the field, including enhancing our contribution to the community.”

City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said: “The redevelopment of Concord Oval will mean our residents will have some of Sydney’s finest world-class sporting, recreation and community facilities at their doorstep.”

Agreed, this is the same info that was out 9 months ago

Now, my update on this is:

DA has not come out of council

No contracts have been signed for knock down or build. This will in all likelihood it will be 2 separate contracts

The Tigers too be based at St Lukes during this period

The Plans are for the knock down to start Feb next year

Yep, next month sounds a little premature to be honest. I live in the area and was told the knockdown is due to start in March.

A lot of developments going on in the area. West Connex has relaxed congestion a bit on Parramatta Rd too. Burwood North is getting a station (corner of Paramatta & Burwood Rd).
On the metro west line. Canada bay, Concord, Burwood should see a lot of growth in the next 10 yrs - it's between Parra & Sydney CBD.

The line won't be completed until 2030 but it will take 20 minutes from Parra to Pyrmont:

In the callan park area, around Church St, just to the north of the ground. There's a number of universities that have setup offices and micro campuses in the area, and there's still other buildings that have capacity too.

You'd think DA approval wouldn't take too long, seeing they're approving their own proposal! 😉

It costs $800 an hour to use Leichhardt Oval

Wests Rugby are using the the old Hockey facilities for their head office. Not sure where the Tigers are going, maybe Wests Leagues at Ashfield. It is a responsibility of Canada Bay Council to find appropriate facilities for the lease holders (West Harbour Rugby) and any other users of Concord Oval. So it is upto the Council to assist with this
