Buzz said that it is not his job to promote league as a journo. If he loves the game as much as he says he does, he should be promoted the game and not reporting hearsay garbage. I bet if it were the Sharks, he would have blunted his pencil before writing…

Well Buzz has a quandary there, because he's a league parasite, he sucks blood from the game but if he exploits it too well he can cripple it.

I haven't seen him on telly for some time, his misshapen face ready to melt off his skull like a wobbly pink jelly, he looks awful. I haven't seen such a punchable face in years.

If they go with anyone but Cleary, especially some of the other so called options, this club deserves a tattoo of the wooden spoon.

I am sure that Ivan will be nowhere as terrible as the coaches Wests Tigers had have over the past five years. In fact I think he will be one of the best the club has ever had.

Ivan the not so terrible?

I can't understand how such an unprofessional drunkard holds such a rapport with players and authority figures in the game.

He shouts the drinks. Lol.
I'd drink with the cockroach if he was paying.

I'd drink with him just so stitch him up with a high range DUI.

Does Rothfield really have a great rapport with the players? Serious question. I dont read his stuff up here.
Benny Elias was looking for a fight with him last night and actually started one a couple of times.

God I hope we don't get Hasler.

Yeah me too, who'd want to play in grand finals?

Come on CB.

He has been horrible for the Dogs these past two years. They have been playing wingers at fullback and persist with two horrible halves. Their pack take control of the game with no power being given to any of the halves. The hooker is forced to pass and pass is all. He hasn't attracted a big name to that club since arriving.

Still managed 14 wins last season. I'd be pretty happy with that. Pretty poor take on the game to not realise he is a great coach Milky.

So he's stale there? They've probably got cap constraints like every other club. You don't turn your nose up at proven success. That's why we are where we are. I hate the way the Dogs play but if Des came here and did that and guaranteed playing into week three or four of the finals year in and out I'm right behind it.

Touché mate.

I don't know about you, but I'm sick of talking about round 1 of next season in the first week of September…

Well its a bit different this year , we can start talking about it in March and in all grades as well :wahoo:

We could always just sign a player manager as the coach, then the players could run the team the way they want.

Or one of these former players, they seem to have all the answers

As far as I'm concerned Robinson is the NRL's best coach, followed closely by Hasler/Bellamy and then Bennett. Then there is Cleary, Maguire in the next bracket.

Robinson, Bellamy, Bennett and Maguire are off the market (I think) so Tigers, take your time - but make it one of Hasler or Cleary please!!

Not so sure whether he's great mates with the players themselves, but he seems to garnish the info he needs from his contacts (probably Eddie Hayson and co.)

Seems pretty cosy with Ayoub as well, seemed to have a lot to say about the Farah debacle but that could well have been Ayoub just using the DT to drive their side of the story.

Nothing has been announced re Hasler, so id be making a late play for him before he puts pen to paper with the Dogs. It would take serious overs to lure him, possibly upwards of a million a season, but the club needs an established coach with a long history of finals. Its non negotiable.

Hasler is tough but yesterday's coach imo.
Hasn't been working for a while and will leave Canterbury in a mess in regards to an unbalanced squad taking years to sort.

Hoping Cleary or even Toovey both with plenty of experience but fitting in to our culture and squad with a balanced tactical approach to attack and defence and guys who l believe will bring guys to our club something Hasler hasn't been doing at the dogs to well lately.

But hopefully within 2 weeks as this season is still very much alive.
Glad they moved on Taylor early, why wait another 2 months. A useful coach but not for us.
At the end of the day we came hear promising defence and consist results but didn't deliver and we lost a lot of players including a club legend and he didn't bring in much re new players.

Just a quick refresher for those who are talking up Hasler's record: have a look at some of the forwards he has had at his disposal during his coaching years, it is absolutely filled with names of Origin and International players, some clearly amongst the best forwards in the world during their careers. Here he will have Woods and Elijah and that is it in regards to quality forwards.
Not to mention Brett Stewart, Jamie Lyon ,Matai, the Morris bros, Foran ,DCE (when he was actually a decent player) he has had some prime cattle to work with that is for certain.
Not saying he isn't a good coach but he isn't going to have much existing talent to work with if he came to WT.

Young Nathan just endorsed his dad for the job. Says he is ready to take it on - I would be happy with that.
Must say I like Ivan's disposition - their is a measured calmness about him. We shall see how it all pans out.

i dont want another 3 or 5 year plan.

im sick of waiting. we need results and NOW

With an entire cap available to the new coach there is no excuse for any 5 year plan. No excuse for not having the squad he wants. It will be all on him.

Aside from players having pre-existing contracts with other clubs. It's all well and good saying we have a clean slate, but we're still at the mercy of the market and have never exactly been a honeymoon club. Taylor had enough time, he made his purchases - some more successful than others - and now has to live with the results. Only fair that the next bloke gets the same opportunity.

Cleary should help attract players. It's why it's so important having an established coach.

And it's a credit to the coach to get his players onside and wanting to play (something we should know all about). I'm not the biggest fan of Hasler, but I have no doubt if he came he'd make the difficult decisions and we'd at least be performing better than under Taylor. Any coincidence that Cherry-Evans falls off the face of the earth when Des leaves? Yes he had some great players in their primes, but he also knows his plan and which players will get the best out of it. You don't land 12 finals appearances in 13 years without being a somewhat capable coach, for all his praise after the first season or two, Trent Robinson is struggling with the Roosters.
