Cleary is the smart choice, but I wouldn't be surprised if Payten gets the gig. At the end of the day, whoever comes in needs to get rid of half the team and fix our deficiencies, namely wing, centre, backrow and have a good look at the halves. Not sold on the idea of re-signing Brooks tbh.

Will be very interesting if the new coach comes in and says "that much for a front rower, i dont think so, seeya Woods", Brooksy or Moses you aren't what this team needs for that price, seeya, i will use the leftover money from one half leaving and brushing Woods to bring in the cheaper and hungrier Todd Carney, strengthen the backrow with McQueen, and sign Whare for the centres".

I would love for the new coach to come in and say he didnt even want all 4 and shake things up.

Hasler and Toovey : Too tough for our Fab 4 to handle.
Payton: One of the Boys Brigade and will bring back Robbie next year for a proper and fitting farewell and 300th game.
Cleary: The obvious and by far the best fit for our club….IMO.... :sign:

Yeah me too, who'd want to play in grand finals?

Come on CB.

He has been horrible for the Dogs these past two years. They have been playing wingers at fullback and persist with two horrible halves. Their pack take control of the game with no power being given to any of the halves. The hooker is forced to pass and pass is all. He hasn't attracted a big name to that club since arriving.

So he's stale there? They've probably got cap constraints like every other club. You don't turn your nose up at proven success. That's why we are where we are. I hate the way the Dogs play but if Des came here and did that and guaranteed playing into week three or four of the finals year in and out I'm right behind it.

Touché mate.

It's been reported that Hasler has spent 10million on the football department last year, and that is without the players salary.
That's why he was told to rein in his spending, how would the WT even get anywhere near that amount of cash to keep Des happy.

Cleary will do me fine. He is quite reserved type with a lot of grit, but really it doesn't matter who gets the gig, till they assemble a squad capable of playing NRL 2017 style they aint going anywhere.

I guess a guy like Cleary might be able to attract some of the vast reserves of players Penrith have or maybe a disgruntled warrior. Anyway who ever gets the gig will need broad shoulders because this side have nil chance of the 8 this year and are probably the top pick for the spoon. You can not compete with a reserve grade back row and outside backs

I think your right super coach.

A team with Leichhardt Lawrence as a starting back rower and the likes of Nquimaa as unchanged starting centres.

Its a roster with a lot of holes in it. I still think we have some talent but their are more holes in this roster then most.

He is also the current Lebanon coach. I hear they have a hooker that goes ok!

Just a quick refresher for those who are talking up Hasler's record: have a look at some of the forwards he has had at his disposal during his coaching years, it is absolutely filled with names of Origin and International players, some clearly amongst the best forwards in the world during their careers. Here he will have Woods and Elijah and that is it in regards to quality forwards.
Not to mention Brett Stewart, Jamie Lyon ,Matai, the Morris bros, Foran ,DCE (when he was actually a decent player) he has had some prime cattle to work with that is for certain.
Not saying he isn't a good coach but he isn't going to have much existing talent to work with if he came to WT.

And it's a credit to the coach to get his players onside and wanting to play (something we should know all about). I'm not the biggest fan of Hasler, but I have no doubt if he came he'd make the difficult decisions and we'd at least be performing better than under Taylor. Any coincidence that Cherry-Evans falls off the face of the earth when Des leaves? Yes he had some great players in their primes, but he also knows his plan and which players will get the best out of it. You don't land 12 finals appearances in 13 years without being a somewhat capable coach, for all his praise after the first season or two, Trent Robinson is struggling with the Roosters.

Yeh, 3 wins from 3 games, 1 of 2 unbeaten teams, he is really scratching for a win.

DCE fell off the face of the Earth right at the moment he signed the 8-year, $10 million deal. No need to be hungry and motivated with that in your back pocket.
As I said, Does can coach alright but how would he go at WT when the extent of his football department spending would depend on how many aluminium cans he can cash in?
Chalk and cheese in every aspect.

If they hire a certain ex tiger to be coach, I'll ask for my membership money back.
Surely a local tuck shop is run better, with less backstabbing, white anting and agendas, and as fans we deserve better.
Why does everyone seem to want to either suck the club dry, or run it into the ground?

My advice would be to take your time signing the 4 amigos the coaching position is too important to leave vacant. Hasler, dean pay or Ivan would make great candidates and i believe hasler would attract some quality athletes. How on earth can Jason taylor remotely be mentioned as a coach is beyond me, one glance at his face alone is enough to deflate the most motivated. Let's see this club get back on track no more ridiculous calls from head office and fingers crossed the future is promising.

If Harry Trigabuff evers does one thing to really help this club out, it is to offer the coin to get Des Hasler to come here.

Why would you be so keen to get Des? He's got a good roster yet never looked likely in winning a premiership. I don't want to consistently make the semis, I want to win another premiership.

But he's never looked likely. Not someone you should be throwing a lot of coin at.

I think Des is a massive stretch anyway. I would like Cleary or Toovey, just not payten or another non established coach.

"But he's never looked likely. Not someone you should be throwing a lot of coin at."

Well except the Bulldogs roster is a little better then ours but their players are actually outperforming their contract value. We seem to be up for a very big bill for the big 4, without a good coach it will be wasted money.

Des at least is used to coaching a team, he is analytical. He would be calculating and can pick up on weaknesses that a lot of the players possess. He hasn't thrived at the dogs but he hasn't floundered. He built up Manly to a force to beat the storm, which is an incredible feat (totally lost to the Penn family). Des has a brain and a good football head, he would add a tonne to our game.

But I doubt we will get him. Bennett, Bellamy, Green, Des, even Ricky Stewart are probably not an option. If Souths are tired of MaGuire, we should take him. Likewise Robertson or Ferguson, but that won't happen. Neil Henry would be a good option and suits our style but he won't move.

It will be tough to improve on Taylor. The only option I can see is Ivan Cleary or try new blood. IMHO whoever we get we should pick someone who is strong on defense. If we get our defense right we can actually win games. We have our house in better order then it has been for ages so hopefully we can at least…... attract Ivan (Henjak if Cleary is not available :frowning:

If Des was mental enough to take the role and we were able to offer what he wanted, I definitely wouldn't say no to him. Even if he doesn't land a premiership he's a good chance of getting us to the last hurdle which is better than listening to your mates give you stick about another non appearance at the pointy end of the year.

last time all the talk was Anthony Griffen was favourite to get the job buy Taylor somehow surprisingly got the job.

Hopefully they learn lesson and get Cleary or Des straight away.
