I am concerned out experience coach and one of our more experienced players have had a falling out so early in the relationship. Both have to combine for the betterment of the club. Packer can lead out younger players and is a university education man.
He's also a thug that belted the living daylights out of a bloke - or stomped. Whatever. He's probably got a very short fuse and won't listen to reason. Why should he? He's getting his cash.

It is a violent game regardless of how you look at it. He's served his time and comparing him to a serial killer is just a little extreme. Both are grown men and boht need to work together. You cannot turn your back on one of most experienced and highly paid players.
Not having a go at you, Paws, but that "done his time" argument only seems to get used when it suits. You don't hear people say it about the pedophile who just got released and moved next door your family.
Anyways, let's just agree: He's a loose bit of gear. Always has been and there's plenty of evidence to support it. We should have known the risk when we signed him.
@Masterton we got played- Saints offered 2 years, we should have offered 2 years- with a little bit more $$$ and maybe option in clubs favour for 3rd year.
What we shoulda done is dug our heels in with cleary and told him you signed them you coach them. You can leave when your contracts finished and we would have been no worse off. Now we have a premiership winning coach and a dud coaches roster.

Cleary leaving has uncovered the complete desperation and ineptitude of the club but also his ability to attract talent. If we as fans knew the contracts when they were done no one would have supported them. It also has highlighted Cleary was simply trying to tread water and boost his value as a coach not improve the Tigers for the long term. He had zero plans of seeing out his contract it defies logic. He gave inflated contracts to players that would back him in the locker room.
Madge is the best thing to happen to the Tigers since Sheens. No player will sign with us for a holiday or retirement benefits. Only motivated hard nosed players that want to improve will sign up. Look at Bellamy he is the closest coach to his style.
Madge will Burn and Churn this team and build for the long term. If players improve he will back them if they sink like Packer, ET, Reynolds, Mahe etc they will not be playing.
Tough few years ahead but it has to be done. No more big contracts and short term deals. Back the youth for the long term.
@TYGA
Yes, I agree.
I was throwing out a 'make him pay' type comment re cleary. Indeed if we had done what I suggested we'd be back in this position as soon as he left anyway. Expensive retribution for us.
At least now we are moving forward albeit painfully.

Retribution would be nice but best revenge is success. The damage he has done is on level with Jason Taylor. The other point I didn’t make was the farce he was bringing Nathan. There never was the cap room available and he knew it.
