Wests Tigers confirm 2018 home game allocation

I find it disappointing because I was under the impression our two home-away-from-home games would be played in areas that don't regularly see rugby league. It's funny, there's always complainers for every decision the club makes. And then there's also some that would defend every decision the club makes, even if they decided to relocate to shanghai. Diversity of opinion at it's best.

Was on board with the two regional game idea, but am peeved that one is in NZ for a start. Will be really pissed off if the second game is similarly staged.

Difference is I suppose we already have 3 home grounds.

Speaking of having 3 home grounds, so do the Dragons, and they took a game to a 4th home ground this season (SCG). Again, i don't see their supporters complaining about their nomadic existence.

We need to aspire to be the best club in Sydney, not just be happy to be like saints. They're not exactly flushed with cash so how about we aim a bit higher.

Dragons are playing 5 games each at Kogarah & Wollongong next year. No wonder their fans are not complaining.

Id say every club should aspire to be the best club in Sydney. Don't think there is anything too profound in that statement.

As I said before, if your worried about the bank balance, the best fix is a winning football team and to give away your home ground advantage to play the best team in the comp, tells me they don't share the same view as me.

Sure take one game a year to the bush, interstate at a pinch and take the game on a rotation basics from our three home grounds over three years.

As a long term member I am far from happy

Wests Tigers to take home game to Tamworth

Thu 12th October, 06:45PM

Wests Tigers have confirmed that the club will be playing a home game in regional New South Wales in 2018.

Wests Tigers have partnered with the NRL on this initiative, with the club set to take a 2018 home game to Tamworth for the first time.

The club is no stranger to the New England region having spent time in the area as a part of the NRL’s Community Carnival at the start of the year. Wests Tigers visited more than 8,000 students at 20 schools and held a number of junior clinics. Tamworth also hosted the 2016 City Country game with the City team featuring Chris Lawrence and David Nofoaluma. Lawrence Captained City to a 44-30 win.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said that the club was excited to be a part of this NRL initiative next season.

“Rugby League has a long history in Australia’s regional communities and we’re proud to be playing a role in continuing this by taking a game to Tamworth,” said Pascoe.

“We take our role in growing the game seriously and this initiative provides a great way to be able to allow fans to see an NRL premiership game played locally for the very first time.”

Tamworth Region Mayor Col Murray is looking forward to welcoming Wests Tigers to Tamworth in 2018.

“This is a great opportunity for our community and rugby league fans from across the region to share in the excitement of an NRL round,” said Cr Murray. “It also kicks another goal for Tamworth in showcasing we are a strong regional centre with high quality sporting facilities and an enviable way of life.”

Dont have much of a problem with us taking a game to Tamworth i think its a decent idea even though we lose a home game as long as we are compensated from the nrl money wise. But to give away a game to new zealand which already has a club there doesn't impress me at all and is just a money grab by the club which i know we need. IMO we as a club need to get a balance between giving away home games to make cash and giving away home games for the right reasons . I know we arent one of the richer clubs and we struggle for funds but we need to get a balance which isnt easy when you are trying to keep two clubs happy even though we should be one by now.

The NRL will schedule matches across seven different regional locations in NSW and Queensland as part of the 2018 NRL Telstra Premiership season.

Premiership matches will be held in Mudgee, Tamworth, Bathurst and Gosford next year, as well as Gladstone, Toowoomba and Cairns.

It means the 2018 season will include the most number of regional locations in NSW and Queensland in the history of the NRL Premiership.

The Gold Coast Titans will take two matches to regional centres (Gladstone and Toowoomba), while South Sydney will continue play one of its matches in Cairns.

The St George Illawarra Dragons will host a match in Mudgee - which will also be the venue for the annual pre-season Charity Shield match against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Wests Tigers will host a match in Tamworth, Penrith Panthers will play in Bathurst, while both the Sydney Roosters and South Sydney will take matches to Gosford.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said the NRL had worked with the clubs and Country Rugby League in order to maximise the number of matches in regional areas in 2018.

"We have said for some time it was our strong desire to take more games to regional venues in 2018, and we're extremely happy to have been able to do that as part of the new schedule," Mr Greenberg said.

"I want to thank the clubs involved for working with us on delivering this positive result for the game in regional areas but also the local councils, community groups and our government partners for being so enthusiastic about hosting rugby league matches.

"It will be great to see so many people in regional areas being able to witness the best of rugby league up close in 2018."

CRL CEO Terry Quinn said the additional matches were a victory for country rugby league fans.

"We always said that, if the Country v City match was to be discontinued, we needed to see more NRL games in regional areas," he said.

"We have secured those extra matches and it means fans will be able to see NRL games in more regional areas than ever before."

Details of each of the fixtures will be released when the full 2018 NRL Telstra Premiership schedule is announced.

Gold Coast taking a game to Gladstone if it's Wests Tigers may well lure happy out of retirement…
