Wests Tigers confirm Jason Taylor as new coach

Taylor's plans I think are by far the most likely to succeed. They are certainly proactive, much more than Potter's was able to take. I think that Taylor and Farah will work well together in sorting out any problems with the captaincy. Much more important to the club in my view is how Taylor will approach the more serious problem regarding Lawrence and his ongoing lack of form as first grade centre.

Take from this what you want.

Through oztag I got to know Kurt Wrigley abit, he is best mates with Nathan brown. Last week (before the announcement of Taylor) he Told me that brown had the tigers board if he got the job he was going to put a broom through the place and no one was safe. He was going to go to announce that the captaincy was up for grabs. He wanted to watch the players in preseason and then appoint a captain when he was satisfied she had the right man. This wasn't a witch hunt to get rid of Farah as he would have the same opportunity as everyone else to get it.

He said that whilst nothing was said directly, brown got the impression this wasn't what the board wanted. No idea what any of the other candidates said, and this could have had nothing to do with brown not getting the job, however the hunch last week did turn out to be right

thanks for the insight.

i dont really know if that's the approach the club needs.

farah is the best player on the team, and by far the most suited to captaincy despite how the media has bashed him and mayer.

keep in mind triple m, ch 9 and fox will all take gordys side…

I dont care if he's the best player on the team, and let's face it, with the team we have assembled at the moment - It's really not high praise.

Farah has proven himself completely unable to lead on multiple occasions this year, in fact he's never been a great captain. This club can't find it's way back with him at the top.

He' will be captain next season , and not because of any politics , but because he is the best captain in the club , and Taylor is not likely to make changes just for the sake of looking tough.
There's more to coaching than just rushing with a new broom and upending everything . I've heard some on here calling for Austen to be appointed captain even though he's no certainty to be in the run on team. That'd work well.
What we need is for a coach that can get the respect of the players and vice versa . It's not a one way street.

I think Taylor will work well for the club and , out of who was available. Is the best result. Funny how Griffins new broom getting rid of Thaiday as Captain looks likely to be changed by Bennett , with Thaiday likely to be reinstated.
Changes only work if you have someone better. There's much bigger problems to iron out than a captain, such as injuries, defence, slow outside backs, and the lack of a hard working, tackling , back rower .

I admire Brown for his guts to know that putting Robbie in his place would be beneficial. But surely he would've looked through the squad and saw there was no player who comes close to being Captaincy material.

I'm happy with Taylor's appointment.

I don't have a problem at all with him involving players in his game plans and getting them to buy into it. That's part of the definition of leadership. It is one way to get players playing to their own strengths and get the absolute best from them. For it to work, he has to be a strong leader.

I think it's important that he and Moss form a good relationship early. It will be the best insurance against 'player power' gone wrong. The two of them will form a block against any whining. If, as has been reported, Moss has been a part of the Panthers selection and rebuilding he will be watching carefully to see who is putting in and working to the coaches plans and structure.

I like the combination of appointments and look forward to next season. Welcome Jason Taylor and Phil Moss.

I agree GCT
Its all well documented Robbies problems last year, his back door exit at Cambo, his not wanting to play against Saints….not good from a leaders perspective BUT when his head is right he is the best (C) in the club.
I think Moss JT & Farah all need to work together and nut out something to prevent what happened this year occuring again, Robbies emotions get the better of him at times...maybe co captains to lighten the load on him, the other bloke could do the majority of media...Farah does though have to pull his head in a bit and realise theres no "I" in team

Good post Insaneink!

Adding a little more to that line of thinking, I tend to believe that Robbie wasn't alone in his summation of Potter. As captain, other players went to him and perhaps expressed concerns and this reinforced Robbies' own thoughts. The whole media circus then ensued.

However as captain, he didn't handle the situation overly well. He lost perspective and let his emotions drive his decision making and became an easy target for the media.

Good leaders are always learning and know limitations. I hope Robbie has realised this and works with the new management team to build structures that allow him to work to his strengths and have appropriate strategies that address the areas that require development.

Never been a fan of Co captains but I'm warming to Idea. Think it may be the best thing for a couple of years before a genuine successor to Farah jumps out.

Farah/Blair captains may work. Lawrence is another option but he needs to show more to even be in the team. But I guess that's the same as Blair.

I don't see Woods as a captain at all.

A lot of lessons will be learnt from season 2014, both on field and off field.

If any so called " leaks to media " happen again, nip it in the bud straight away before it turns it gains momentum.

**Why not have the players undergo some sort of media training, so if any instances occur, they can handle it appropriately**

most media courses dont include lessons on what to do if your mate who works in media leaks information you privately told him a year ago about the coach.

the players weren't even the problem in terms of media bs this year.

I believe our next captain will be one of either Tedesco, Woods or Brooks.

I think Farah as co-captain with Tedesco would work well.

Teddy may be a future leader of our team. But right now he's only played 26 fg games and is 22years old?

You're a madunit indeed
