Wests Tigers deny signing Anasta

Wests Tigers have denied signing Braith Anasta to a two-year deal, but have refused to say whether they are interested in snaring the veteran Sydney Roosters skipper.

Speculation linking five-eighth Anasta to NRL rivals the Tigers was rampant on social media network Twitter on Wednesday night, with claims a two-year deal starting in 2013 had already been signed.

"We're not commenting on recruitment speculation," Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys told AAP.

A source within the Tigers camp said there was no deal in place, but declined to comment when pressed on whether the club was interested.

The Roosters have so far refused to extend his stay at Bondi Junction.

Currently in his seventh season at the Roosters, Anasta's future has been the subject of much speculation, with the club having already signed Warriors playmaker James Maloney to play five-eighth in 2013.

There is also the strong belief that the Roosters are clearing salary cap space for the return to rugby league of All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams next year.

Should Anasta join the Tigers, it would likely result in superstar Benji Marshall being moved to the No.7 jumper, though Anasta could also play in the back row.

are there anymore guys near the end of their career we can snare ?
Anasta, gee .
Get rid of sheens ,he is the stale one in the place

We could wait until Petero has finished his two years and sign him Can't think of anyone older

I'm also hearing Steven Price has recovered well from his leg injury. Apparently after 2 years of recovery and retirement, his hunger is back and if the WT are fair dinkum he's more than happy to put pen to paper for a 3 year deal.

I wish we could here the same info in regards to Taniela Miss the big bloke still 😢

after watching how mentally fragile we are in decision making i welcome Braith anasta anyday he is a structured player and obviously doesnt struggle with pressure all TIGERS fans worked that out . a good mix of 5/8 and lock

All this press in the past week about signing players, then not signing players looks so amateurish and disorganised.

Get your act together Tigers management! Stop fluffing around with all these has-beens and make some real decisions! Not once has Sheens come under fire in the media about the start to the season or the fact the club isn't in the mix with any quality names like DCE, Cronk, Taylor or Williams.

I had a laugh when I read that Happy but I must add that petro would be great for our young forwards even if it's in an off the field capacity. Or if he is able to keep playing put him in the front row with Skando…...

I like the idea of Braith Anasta, just like I like the idea of Mason.

He's a noted hard man in defence up the guts, obviously a sore point. Also he can organise the attack, which is something we've never really been good at. Yes yes yes, brilliant attack when its on but hardly organised. It's becoming clear that the "throw it around and score" method, whilst beautiful to watch, is not exceptionally effective in winning silverware. I could digress into a long rant about how I think the on and off-field attitudes need a shake but that's for another time.

I think these players near the end of their careers are exactly what we need. Tough, proven players, on a short-term basis. Why? We have a lot of junior players coming through who will form the backbone of the team for the next ten years. These senior guys can teach them plenty about how to achieve success in the game long-term. Tuquiri is a duel international, and he Utai, Mason and Anasta all have NRL rings, and have represented at international level. Ditto with Adam Blair, who is a longer-term proposition.

Lets remember that this team was an arranged marriage between two cellar-dwellers and now we are in the mix. We have got there through brilliance, but not through consistent professionalism. Make no mistake you don't get picked to play for your country if you're not a tough and consistent professional performer. People say that the Tigers don't get enough representative honour, but there's a reason. We are not consistent.

Of course we all want to see winning NOW. However unrealistic carping about DCE or Cooper Cronk or T-Rex or whoever is pointless. There is a reason we are not looking to buy those guys, we have invested in our own juniors, and in some seasoned players to help them along. We should invest in more as they bring good value as well as the missing element in our on-field play. Toughness and consistency. This season the Tigers are a work in progress, after the moderate success of the last two years. As fans we should look at the bigger picture and trust that the coach and the players are doing their best to win games now and in the future. It seems that plenty of people on this forum started believing the pre-season hype.

They can all always be sacked when we're 0-10.

The back line will get slower!! but I would take him, he has a great football brain, he turns up every week and has a kicking game. The club just has to get some grunt in the forwards, if they don't it will not matter who the sign for the backline

And here we go again! I wonder how many pages this one will get up to?

Well there were 6 pages on Ray 'nobody' Cashmere, so maybe with a better quality player a few more.
