A group of Wests Tigers players visited local Inner West schools today to help promote the importance of literacy in this the National Year of Reading.
Captain Robbie Farah, Adam Blair, Chris Heighington and Blake Ayshford visited schools across the Inner West region which included Orange Grove Public School, North Ryde Public School, Meadowbank Public School and Epping Boys High School.
The players spoke to the kids about why it is important to be able to read, especially as a Professional Rugby League player and also handed out Wests Tigers hats, posters and stickers.
Captain Robbie Farah said that he enjoyed visiting the kids this morning.
“It’s crucial for kids to recognise from an early the age that reading is a really important skill and I hope that me being there has helped reinforce that.
“In my own personal experience, I wouldn’t have been able to complete a University degree without my reading skills. It also an important to be able to read well in everyday life.”
The kids at Meadowbank Primary School were overjoyed at meeting Chris Heighington and posed for a photo in their own ‘Heighno’ masks ahead of his record equaling 185th game for the Club next Monday.
Adam Blair was a popular visitor at Epping Boys High where the students were interested to learn of how he came to Australia and his journey to be a professional Rugby League player for Wests Tigers.
