One Wests Tigers player was described as suffering a "serious" infection and was quarantined indefinitely while another was being monitored and had received a heavy dose of antibiotics on Wednesday night as the club waited on the results of staphlycoccus tests.

Skipper Robbie Farah, Aaron Woods, Jack Buchanan and Pat Richards were all reported in the media to have suffered from boils which Wests Tigers officials said was a form of staph but there were concerns for two squad members who chief executive Grant Mayer refused to identify.

"There is one player in particular who has a serious infection but he has been quarantined," Mayer said. "There is a second player we are watching very carefully and he's been given the correct medication and is likely to play. The remaining players will take the field [against St George Illawarra] on Sunday."

Mayer stressed the medical advice he had received was there was no risk of the players who had been infected spreading the infection to their opponents. Wests Tigers are waiting to receive the results of the tests the players took on Thursday.

"Our advice is as long as we have caught it in time there is absolutely no risk of any player passing it on to another [player]. It is of paramount importance for us to ensure the players are safe and no further risk of infection can happen."

The club was not sure where, or how, the outbreak occurred. However, players from Cronulla – who the Tigers played in a pre-season trial had also suffered infections. Five Wests Tigers players have been affected and it was believed the fact the team had a pre-season break last Wednesday may have helped prevent more from being infected.

One concern for the five players who have been affected by the infection was they would not have trained in five days by kick-off and it remains to be seen how that would affect their performance against the Dragons.

Mayer emphasised the players who took the field would pose no risk to anyone.

So we have the Sharks to blame for all this? Another reason to kick them out..!

I'm guessing the main player here is BMM - not listed anywhere, not on injury list etc.

God dammit the whole platoon's dropping like flies (Dolph Lundgren - Universal Soldier). Seriously though, I hope all affected players recover well and if they need to be rested then so be it.

So It Looks Like we got it from playing The Sharks. …but theres no risk to Stains players??????

Okaaaaay

Most are very short term. We should be full strength next week bar halatau and siro. Unless we get more on Sunday, touch wood

Maybe its a ploy like that rugby player used down on the south coast to wet himself so no one would wanna tackle him

Two have resumed training so that is good news. These two would have to be robbie woods or richards. Hopefully the other that is likely to play is one of these three.

If we can get a gutsy win from the dragons with no injuries we should be very close to full strength squad for the gold coast…thats when the real hard yards will begin (manly and souths in first 5 rounds)

wait so, Robbie Farah, Aaron Woods, Jack Buchanan and Pat Richards aren't playing or only one or two of them could be out? what about the dream teams??? the dream teams???

This may be another case of Sharks' irresponsibility. Did Sharks know of this infection approaching the time of the trial? If so why was not it reported and why did the affected players take the field?

Hey has anyone seen this? Uh oh.

"Wests Tigers are sweating on Robbie Farah and **Chris Lawrence** to recover from an outbreak of boils after the duo missed training on Friday. Aaron Woods and Pat Richards have also suffered from boils during the week but the quartet are expected to play St George Illawarra at ANZ Stadium on Sunday."
