and what do you base that on we have been severely hampered by previous decisions made by Taylor and Cleary, Madge is slowly sorting it
out will probably take until season 2021 to get back on an even keelwith a slight improvement in 2020

Good news!

https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/10/23/merrin-gives-up-nrl-return-amid-player-market-stalemate/

Wests Tigers were linked to Cronulla playmaker Matt Moylan on Tuesday as a possible circuit breaker, a move that would allow the Sharks to ease their salary cap woes and precipitate Ryan Matterson's release.

Matterson has met with Parramatta with negotiations progressing positively between the two parties, however, the Tigers are determined not to grant the disgruntled forward a release unless they get something from the development.

It's understood a Tigers official made contact with Moylan last week to gauge his interest in a move to Concord, with an eye to replacing Benji Marshall in the halves when the club legend eventually retires.

Moylan is contracted to Cronulla until the end of 2021, with both he and his manager rebuffing the Tigers approach.

If the few posts above are accurate I don’t see this as good news. I accept that it may be media rubbish but there seems to be a steady retort from players saying they do not want to come to the Tigers. If there is a perception amongst players that we are a no go zone, it must be addressed. We must change to alter the perception. It definitely is not good if no one wants to come here.

How can Moylan come here if he is under contract until end of 2021?

That’s an aside issue. What I’m saying is IF there is a perception that we are not a good club to join we have to ask why? We are more competitive than half the NRL clubs so IF the perception is there it must be more than onfield performance

There's no evidence whatsoever that there is that perception. You don't know why he rebuffed us. It could be because he likes it at the Sharks, he wants to honour his contract, it could be a range of things.

If he moves to another club before season starts can we assume it’s partly because of our club and our coach?

Im a bit over this victim mentality of how bad we are. I said a few days ago, you'd think its a DV relationship the way some of you carry on.

Who cares what you’re over? Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Read my posts again - you’ll see I highlighted IF. I don’t know, you don’t know, but there have been a number of comments stating that players won’t come to us. So IF that’s true it needs investigating. Can’t see any link to a victim mentality. More a link to an analysis of qualitative data.

Comments from who? Anyone on record?

investigation required? what a waste of resources - just ask the player who you're trying to sign, they will tell you straight up - no need for an investigation.

You could assume but you know what happens when you do!

Seriously we could have gone to his manager with a low ball offer and they said no thanks. That doesn’t prove nobody wants to play for us.

I’m sure if someone threw stupid money at him he would take it and that wouldn’t prove there is anything wrong with Wests Tigers. It just prove we didn’t make him a stupidly over the top offer.

@TigersBusDriver We can think that but the coach sourced and contracted the Plodder of the decade Jennings .. so until I see who the coach signs who knows who will be contracted if Jennings is any example of the coaches Recruitment abilities !

@Snake To be fair to him I can recall many of us being pleased with the Jennings purchase. Top try scorer for that season (regardless of how little effort each try of his required) and he secured a wing spot for one of the form teams of the competition. His plodding was well hidden I'm afraid.

Coming from the Sharks side of things. Poster on LU said that Moylan hasn't spoken to us yet. Will be meeting Madge on the weekend.

It's an anxious time being a Wests Tigers fan, being reliant on the media for any idea of what's happening in the potential player transfer market.

The so-called facts are a mix of wishes, guesses, click-bait, and pretty much agendas of faceless men (aka player agents) who are pushing their interests for individual players.

Sure just mention Wests Tigers. Everyone knows we are player needy. Everyone knows we are sitting ducks for all the promises in the world. Everyone knows we are ripe for the picking.

So what's the real story?

Well that's the thing - we fans must trust our management to lead us along the path of salary cap limits, player mix and all round squad quality.
But gee-wiz, it's still an anxious time being a Wests Tigers fan.

@WT2K

It was an anxious time 10 years ago Now its just continual acceptence of average players.

Unless a team makes the top4 then there is little chance of making any kind of statement and this team needs about 5-7 quality players added.

Maybe Moylan wants to finish his contract at Cronulla especially if he lives near there.

True. He may have been putting the spade work in with a team mates gf over there and doesn't want to miss out on the chance. *allegedly *

Wests tigers can't offer him anything near that,

@TIGER the closest they came to destroying a team was when they were able to play together for brief periods this year. Unfortunately that team was the sharks...

No it’s not.

I can tell you for a fact the Sharks will be cheering if we take Moylan. They don’t want him at the club for the same reasons most on here feel about recruiting him. Overpaid, not coachable, injury prone. Tigers need to walk away.

'He's been treading water for a while': Andrew Johns issues Matt Moylan stark wake-up call
By George Vlotis

Cronulla Sharks star Matt Moylan has "two years to get his career back on track" and stop "treading water", says rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns.

Moylan found his name in headlines this week after a reported swap deal with the Wests Tigers' Ryan Matterson emerged as a mutually beneficial move for both clubs. Cronulla is reportedly looking for some salary cap relief and is eager to shed some of the bigger contracts on its roster to remain compliant. Matterson is looking for a new home just one year into a three-season deal after a breakout 2019 with the Tigers, reportedly first raising the issue of a release with coach Michael Maguire three months ago.

Moylan has struggled to find consistency in recent times, dogged by injury, after initially promising so much at fullback. But should the deal go through Johns issued the 28-year-old a warning to get his act together. "I worry about Moylan," Johns told Wide World of Sports' Freddy & The Eighth. "Two, three years ago he was the next big thing. A big hope for NSW, a big ball-playing fullback. He could jump in and play in the halves a little bit. "I think he's been treading water for a while. So he's in with a big 12-months, two years to get his career back on track."

I was a Moylan fan when he burst in the scene.
But, he never delivered consistently and clearly hasn’t been easy to work alongside.
If he stayed as hot as he was 3 years ago he probably wouldn’t be on the market.
I am one who never thinks we should pass on talent, but this guy looks like a headache and doesn’t fill me with any confidence.
