Wests Tigers looking to shed veteran big men

I reckon they might be doing Gibbs and Fulton a favour because they are club legends, they have prob been approached with massive overs somewhere, it is prob there las contract and the club as prob said , good luck to you guys take $1 mil or more over 3 years and set yourselves up

If Liam and Bryce have already been talking to the Sharks, I bet SOO selection has been dangled in front of them. I would predict that if Gibbs, especially, played for the Sharks next year he would play SOO. (As he should have been for two seasons now, but never will while he plays for the Tigers.)

I would much prefer we tell Adam Blair thanks, but no thanks, and keep our local legends to ourselves.

How can the Sharks use SOO selection or any possible rep jumper as some sort of enticement?

I recall everyone stating how once Sheens became national coach we'd end up with a bagful of Aussie players….its a myth & BS

The question is are we more likely to win a premiership and be successful over the next few years with

a) Fulton, Gibbs, Payten

or

b) Woods, Murdoch Masiala, Fifita and Blair

Now Toddy is close to retiring and if we have to let the other 2 go to ensure we keep the 4 below then I support that - also if those blokes can do better elsewhere and we can help them do that both in terms of more minutes and money then we owe it to them as the great club men they have been to give them that opportunity . The main point from all this though is that it is all rumor although some of it does make sense given the number of upgrades we would be looking at - Fifita, Woods, MM, Utai - all would be on more money you would think plus I would think Moltzen and Dwyer would probably have some kind of rep bonus in their contracts (and perhaps Fulton too) meaning increases in salary

I ask only 1 thing - Whoever Leaves Please take Balmain Bug with them and never let him return here 😛ray: 😛ray: 😛ray: 😛ray:

I think Fulton is better off elsewhere sadly. Its always sad seeing a local junior and premiership winner leave. But we have a backrow of Ellis, Dwyer and Heighington. That leaves Fulton on the bench where he doesnt have the needed impact. We also need to find bench spots for our young stars in Woods, BMM and Fifita.

Toddy Payten's time looks like it has past and could start his coaching role in 2012.

Bryce Gibbs I would like to keep. I'm not sure if Adam Blair's best position is front row and we need depth in that position. We would have Galloway, Blair, Fifita, Woods but what if one, two or more go down injured?

I think what we maybe forgetting is that if Gibbs & Fulton don't want to leave, Tigers can't make them & where dose that leave the club? After all they both have at least 2 & 1/2 years left here.

Watching Blair, he seems a big-game player. His best games have been with the Kiwis and the Storms finals. Not sure whether he is worth so much for the season though.

On this 'deal', we should be able to release other players before Fulton and Gibbs to extend the contracts of BMM, Fafita, Woods and Groat. How about the Schirnack boys, Daniella, Flanagan and Moors?

Gibbs and Fulton I think are 2 key players. Both are seasoned players. Gibbs is getting to his best and Fulton offers something different from every other forward we have.

Paytens body seems to be failing him. Its unfortunate that someone like him may have to be released to keep juniors, but that seems to happen in the modern game.

Am I the only one who thinks Blair is being viewed as the longer-term replacement for Ellis? I know Ellis has two years left but if he's starting to miss more games with injury he may not be the guy you want to rely on for 20+ games x 80 minutes a season by 2012 let alone 2013\. If Blair's contract is back-loaded so he gets some of Ellis's money come 2014 we've got succession already in place - ideal.

As for Gibbs & Fulton, as others have said it's just the nature of the beast. We need to re-up Woods and Fifita before next season is over, and there are other threads on this board about clubs sniffing round Dwyer. The money has to come from somewhere or we have to accept we won't hold on to all those guys. Until the new salary cap is a reality we can't start spending it, either.

My hunch is that the club is planning on building round the three young props (and, hopefully, Galloway), Blair and Dwyer in the second row and the current halves. There may even be an in-house replacement for when Heighington moves on in the form of Lawrence (he's getting bigger and bigger, and if this injury robs him of some pace that move may have to be seriously considered two or three years ahead of schedule).

Incidentally, what is Lui's contract status? He's clearly thought of as a key man and it would be great to have him locked up before the rest of the comp wakes up to how good he can be.

To all those saying Blair is no good and we shouldn't be chasing him if we are to lose players - open your eyes!

We are talking about an international quality forward, a mainstay in the NZ side, and a powerhouse player in the best team in the comp (even if they were over the cap).

I like both Gibbs and Fulton, and if it came down to it I would definitely be trying to hang onto Gibbs - I honestly think we can still sign Blair and keep Gibbs by freeing up money elsewhere. But at the end of the day this is a business, and tough decisions need to be made. If it is true I applaud the club for its thinking and forward planning.

As another poster said, for years it was always "how can we attract quality players", now it is, "how can we fit quality players in our side without going over the cap".

I remember when we let Halatau go people were complaining, probably the same people saying Blair is not that good and we shouldn't be chasing him. What a load of rubbish.

I think the equation is really simple…

We didnt win the Comp in 2010 because we werent good enough... We are buying a new addition that has quality written all over him, a leader and on his day, one of the most dominant players in the comp to allow us to take that step further.

I've read many headlines over the last 3 years about Blair being outstanding and winning games for Melbourne & New Zealand... Where are the headlines about Fulton & Gibbs???

Seriously... Open your eyes!

Watto Blair is far from being a certainty to be joining us and if what I heard is right that he may be snaffled from under our noses much like Riddell was and by the same club or he won't leave the Storm . Hope what I heard was not right

We need a rethink around out forward pack which is constantly being pushed around the park by likes of Easts, Manly and Bulldogs. This may be a wake up time.

It is only one key stroke TR4L and it is a ".".

If you could maybe even just use one of these it will help the rest of us work out what the hell you are actually talking about!

Mind you, I do look forward to reading your posts though!

Otherwise I think you need a new keyboard as there are a stack of keys missing…
