Wests Tigers looking to shed veteran big men

Running a NRL club has been predominantly a "business" for some time,& at the end of the day we cant keep them all AND have a promising succession plan of youngsters coming through. Its a balancing act of loyalty vs future, which is why the CEO is paid the big buck$.
Having said that, its taken a long time but Gibbs has really matured as a player in the past year or two,& wld be a truly regrettable loss for a club that only 2 seasons ago were forced to select backrowers as props. With his playing style,he can also play second row.Either way he adds much needed "mongel" & go forward to the pack.I have no idea why we wld punt him
Seperately,Ive been watching Adam Blair for some time now since he was linked with WT,& maybe Im a lone voice here, but Im not overwhelmed. He's a solid prop just like Gibbs ,with good but not outstanding ball skills(he's certainly no Payten),& I just cant see what all the fuss is about at the $$ being bandied about for him.If he's gonna cost Gibbs plus a Fifita/Woods(& maybe then some),I know which way Id go

Yeah they were 100% wrong about Prince going tot he Gold Coast wern't they?? I remmeber for 2 months everyone was saying how crap the story was turns out it wasnt so crap

Iam sure theirs a lot of substance behind the story, it makes sense. It would be a sad move but at the same time a smart move

Dunno. Wasn't around on the forum then. That was also a long time ago. Reporting has gone downhill further since then.

Sorry supercoach but it makes no sense to me. There are plenty of good games left in those two.

for all those whinging and complaining about loyalty.

would you prefer to keep local juniors who are nearing 30 and struggling with injuries, and go back to the dark old days Pre Sheens where we realllllly struggled, or let 2 players go to another club which is financially better for them, and in the meantime sign New Zealands vice captain and one of the best forwards in the world, as well as upgrade contracts to 4 awesome 20 year olds who are going to be the future of the club?

yes, fults and gibbs will be sadly missed if they leave, but if we want to be one of the strongest clubs in the NRL, we have to think with our head, not heart.

(after saying all that, there is a very good chance that the 'insiders' are L Fulton and B Gibbs, in the best prank they have ever come up with)

I don't think it's all that bad a move for the Tigers to do this. Gibbs and Fulton are both great in defence and would be sorely missed in that aspect of the game but I don't think either can be used as effective ball-playing fowards. Gibbs never takes the line on with any aggression, this little shimmy he has going makes him a target waiting to be smashed. It's no wonder why the bloke hasn't scored a try for 6 years. Fulton has more potential in this aspect of the game but is simply too small. When your 10-15 kg smaller than the opposition fowards, it's always going to be hard to make an impact.

Personally, I'd be happy to sacrifice both of these two for someone of the Adam Blair variety. Plus if Toddy Payten retires, that may free up space for another good foward.

I agree with those who have referred to the increase in the salary cap as a way to keep these players. Gibbs in particular adds starch to our pack IMO and I'd hate to see him let go. At the same time, as others have said, believing what you read in the paper can be dicey.

Some of us are local juniors much like Gibbs and Fulton, some of us grew up in the tribalism era where your local team is YOUR team.
Its not easy to forget where your basis and grounnding for the game began….it in fact stays with you forever, some changes in the game do come along and arent easy to accept but without having any direct involvement like other things acceptance must come or you get left behind.

The fact if this is true- that this will rob two locals of the chance to be - in Gibbs case only our second (Behind farah) home grown product with 10 years service - Fulton in '13 ....really leaves a shiyty taste in the mouth

A bloke at work today who is mates with Liam Fultons dad had told him he was going to the Sharks a few weeks ago, as apparently Dwyer is being tipped as his replacement. So reading this shows no good signs.Hope we keep him and Gibbsy though, Liam took one for the team by moving to ESL a few years ago to prevent a breach and it's disappointing to hear if he is not rewarded for that kind of loyalty as it's hard to find and their performances have been good this year.Time will tell

And not long ago the Tigers were in the paper talking about the retention of six of our 2005 premiers. Now we are looking to wipe three of them in one hit.

I understand it is a business but at the end of the day those blokes were all part of something special and have toiled pretty hard in the years since and it's hard to separate the emotion from it thinking that despite playing amongst the best at the club they may be shown the door.

I agree, I have been watching Blair with interest, & I am yet to see any value in him at all.
Imagine swapping an import Kiwi for 2 locals. If this happens I just may not renew my Platinum Membership !!!!

I find this all hard to believe. Gibbs has years to run on his contract which was only recently extended. Why has someone suddenly 'found religion' and decided he is surplus to requirements? Both he and Fulton are potentially coming into the best years of their careers. May well be wrong but doesn't pass the smell test to me.

What do you expect from a club that does not have all of its 2011 Jerseys for sale yet?

The management of this club confuses me.

As I said in a previous thread look at the Bulldogs won the premiership the year before we did and the only player they have from premiership team is Ryan . Unfortunately thats the nature of the salary cap and why we need an independant commission asap to sort these issues out asap
