Wests Tigers looking to shed veteran big men

If Liam and Bryce have already been talking to the Sharks, I bet SOO selection has been dangled in front of them. I would predict that if Gibbs, especially, played for the Sharks next year he would play SOO. (As he should have been for two seasons now, but never will while he plays for the Tigers.)

I would much prefer we tell Adam Blair thanks, but no thanks, and keep our local legends to ourselves.

Time to secure our future and sign our talented crop of cubs this is where our premiership is…. the 3 players mentioned are spending a lot of time off the field at the moment .Sometimes hard choices have to be made to move forward.I have heard that a couple of clubs are throwing big $$$$ around to get players to there clubs so maybe a few of these guys have already been offered better deals so good luck to them. I have every confidence in our current management if they see fit to move players on so be it ..loyalty cuts both ways I look forward to the future of this club with our younger players not playing reruns of past games thanks for the memories guys.

Gibbs and Fulton are both characters and in their football punch above their weight. They have both been great for the club, but if we are to retain Woods,BMM Fifita and maybe introduce a marque signing something has to give, its that simple.

We all like to cheer for a team of local kids that we have seen come up through the ranks over the years but we also want to cheer for a wining team and I think the club knows what it has to do to make it to the next level

I agree with those who have referred to the increase in the salary cap as a way to keep these players. Gibbs in particular adds starch to our pack IMO and I'd hate to see him let go. At the same time, as others have said, believing what you read in the paper can be dicey.

aswell as an increase to the playing roster from 26 to 30 come 2013.

The Sharks can have Beau Ryan without any complaints from me.

If rumours are true Sharks could have 4 ex Wests Tigers players in their squad in 2012.

Dean Collis, Beau Ryan, Bryce Gibbs and Liam Fulton.

How about adding John Morris and Stuart Flanagan

. It's no wonder why the bloke hasn't scored a try for 6 years.

Personally, I'd be happy to sacrifice both of these two for someone of the Adam Blair variety. Plus if Toddy Payten retires, that may free up space for another good foward.

Fulton scored last week against Canberra.

Any move to another club would see them seeing and income increase so its not all bad news.

It comes down to the fact that these great guys are likely to become Benchies in the next year or so and the club is probably doing them a favour by let them move a little early to maximise their career and possible earnings.

It's a difficult balancing act and it shouldn't be all business.

But if the playing rosters are going to be increased from 25-30 once the Tv deal goes through and reported 7 million salary cap also clubs are going to need even more depth than ever . And some of the rising stars we are talking about Groat , Begovich and even BMM to a degree are unproven at NRL level as yet whereas Gibbs and Fulton are seasoned campaigners who are still comparatively young . Fulton in particular with his utility value needs to be kept and our defence never looks the same without Gibbs . lets just wait and see what conspires with the TV deal and then make our decision with other players especially if we don't get Blair later

With larger squads we will have lots of players idle.

Lets hope they spend some time and money working on the 2nd tier comp as well.

I'd like to see changes with the independant commission An idea I had was to increase the bench size from 4-6 but with only 1 change per person barring serious injury . If a player is deemed to have a "Serious" injury he must miss the following match whether fit or not . Then if deemed serious he could be replaced by a previous replaced player (not a fresh one) . Think this would bring certain players back into the game speed up play the ball and stop gang tackling which will make the game we love even more enjoyable .

I really cant see us letting Gibbs & Fulton go, for the plain & simple reason they are talking abot increasing the squad to 30 players. If we let these two go where do we find anyone better especially if new teams come into the comp?. If you look @ our roster players coming off contract are Tuqiri end of next year, Mckinnon end of next year, Payten end of next year or maybe this year?, also Ellis two more years so these players have to be raplaced. This is why i wouldnt let Gibbs & Fulton go.

I can never remember a time since I've been following Wests/ Wests Tigers since 1973 we have been in a position where it is a case of who to get rid of. Its always been who we "hope" to get or who we "hope" to retain. The word hope doesnt really come into it anymore. Which all goes to show what an excellent position this club is in if it is considering offloading the callibre of players as Gibbs, Fulton and Payten. Amazing how times change.

I have to admit I'm in Inks camp on this one although I have very mixed feelings. On the one hand, I want the club to keep ahead of the pack by constantly renewing and improving with recruitment of top quality players. On the other hand, some of our WT's favourite sons may be farewelled earlier than we'd like them to be (like all the emotion surrounding Hodgo when he was released).

I don't think I'd like to see Gibbs and Liam finish their careers with Cronulla. Be much better to see them playing with us til they call it a day. Hopefully Tim and Stephen can manufacture some sort of arrangement in the salary cap to keep them and get the players they need that are available on the market.

There are others that should be sold off before Liam and Gibbso.

On a brighter note, I loved watching Liam play the ball playing role against country last friday. Fonz plays him as a runner at at Wests and its such a waste. Liam looked like Paul Langmack the other night, he was fantastic !!

We need Liam at Lock and Heighington in the 2nd row with Ellis. Liam is of great value to this club. Both are of great value.

if it comes down to choosing between woods or gibbs ill take woods
he ha much better go forward and the same great defense

as for Blair um why would we want him,hes only good cause hes at the storm

is that the reason he's NZ VC?

If you dont change your coach every four years you have to have a steady movement of players, other wise the place goes stale. I think Sheens is trying to reinvent the place. I really dont think its a bad idea, its 2011 not 1972,you have to make hard calls to stay up or near the top

well said supercoach …..so the next step is to clean out the place ....we want big names to play for us , so some of the favorites have to make way for them ......good call mr humphreys
