WESTS TIGERS LOSE 24-22 TO RABBITOHS IN NYC

Wests Tigers suffered a 24-22 defeat against South Sydney tonight at the Sydney Football Stadium in round 5 of the Toyota Cup competition.
In a match Wests Tigers led for all but 75 minutes, the Rabbitohs snatched victory on the back of two late tries to full-back James Roberts.
Wests Tigers opened the scoring in the 7th minute when five-eighth Curtis Sironen faked a kick before stepping back inside to score near the posts. Sironen converted his own try for a 6-0 lead.
The Rabbitohs hit back in the 13th minute when left winger David Sisifa scored in the corner. Full-back James Roberts converted from the sideline.
Sironen laid on Wests Tigers’ second try when he showed the ball and drew in two defenders to pop up a short pass to centre Tim Simona who then sent winger Faleula Finau over untouched in the corner. Sironen converted the try for a 12-6 lead after 25 minutes.
Finau should have had his second try in the 33rd minute after Sironen again drew in the defence and offloaded to Simona but the winger dropped the final pass just short of the corner post.
Wests Tigers half-back Dean Parata left the field in the 37th minute with a right ankle injury after being driven back in a two man tackle. It is Parata’s first game back from the same ankle injury and the hooker turned half was looking sharp until leaving the field in a terrible blow to the talented youngster.
Sironen landed a 25 metre penalty goal in the 39th minute to give Wests Tigers a 14-6 lead at half-time.

2ND Half
Sironen was involved in Wests Tigers’ third try when he ran to the defensive life before turning a ball back inside for captain and second-rower Shaun Spence. The skipper flicked out a pass to his right which was picked up off the ground by full-back Limoni Kamuta who scored next to the posts in the 45th minute for an 18-6 lead. Surprisingly, Sironen then missed the simple kick much to the shock of all.
Rabbitohs full-back James Roberts showed a real turn of foot when he beat the attempted tackle of Joel Wisbey to race 35 metres to score behind the posts. Roberts converted his own try for an 18-12 scoreline after 55 minutes.
Sironen fell just metres short of grabbing his second try in the 63rd minute.
South Sydney then scored two back to back tries within three minutes to Roberts under the posts that saw the Rabbitohs steal a 24-18 lead after 75 minutes.
Wests Tigers hit back in the 77th minute when Sironen sent the ball left to Simona who pushed off a Souths defender to send Finau over for his second try in the left corner. Sironen failed to convert the try from the sideline to leave Wests Tigers trailing 24-22 after 78 minutes.
Wests Tigers had one last attacking chance when the ball was spread right before winger Ratu Tagive was tackled 15 metres short of the line and taken into touch in the final minute. Wests Tigers were then awarded a scrum penalty with 18 seconds remaining 10 metres out.
A grubber kick was put through in the final seconds but Souths swooped on the ball to secure victory.
It was a match Wests Tigers should have won.
