Far too much negativity on ET in my opinion. He's one of our best tacklers and at 28 is far from finished and is an important leader on the field and the master of the niggle. I reckon he will become even more important in the new Madge WWE approach to defence and the slow down, it's his natural game

Garner showed a lot of promise last year, it's great that he's getting an opportunity early on in the piece. Just a shame it's under these circumstances. I think one of the biggest challenges will be finding balance, both with the make up of the bench and the minutes each forward will be expected to play.

I bagged him last year. In hindsight I should've bagged the club and especially the "coach" for not resting him enough when he looked so wobbly.

Yeah he doesn't strike me as the type of guy that is going to rest himself or ask for a break. He needs to be better managed if we're going to get the best out of him and definitely kept out of the hooker role.

With Lawrence out injured the listed team is pretty much what you would expect for their trial game. Personally I'd start Twal instead of Matulino, but apart from that, Aloiai is the only surprise perhaps. Maybe Aloiai isn't ready yet but I'm sure he'll get his chance.

For Madge - it's all about intent and testing shapes in A and structures in D. I'm keen to see how Matterson, Jennings and Mikaele fit in, and whether Packer and Mats are up to where we need to be in 2019.

Really hope Lawrence is back in minimum time - possibly 6 weeks!?!

I disagree mate. ET has done exactly what he has been asked of his coach to suit the game plan.

He is a true selfless leader in the team doing what he can for the team.

I agree with @Spartan117 I don't think Cleary used ET well and often he was left to be a one man army in defence. He played his best footy under Jason Taylor when he was used as a ball player in the middle of the field. The bloke is only 28, and still has plenty of footy left in him. Hopefully under Maguire ET won't have to shoulder such a heavy load defensively and can play a more balanced game.
