Wests Tigers need to settle up with Robbie Farah so the NRL club can settle down

The Wests Tigers should pay Robbie Farah whatever money he is owed, thus allowing everyone to get on with their lives. Please spare the game from the headlines of this ridiculous public spat.

Let me say right from the outset that I regard Robbie Farah as a mate. I have personally witnessed the tremendous work he has done away from the playing field in using his profile to raise money for so many worthwhile causes. He is a quality person.

I also have a great deal of time for Tigers coach Jason Taylor. We may not agree with a coach's selection decisions from time to time, but I will defend to the hilt the right of any coach to select the team he thinks can win football games.

It goes without saying that the Wests Tigers are a massive brand in our game. They don't need this rubbish. Nor do they need to be choosing sides here in some battle of wills to resolve such a difficult situation.

**This spat is about the salary cap. It's about Robbie's back-ended and now very expensive playing contract and the Tigers wanting to remove this player from their roster.**

It's not Robbie's fault his contract was constructed this way. He was owed money and this is how the club chose to restructure the deal. Now the contract amount is a burden to the club. All Robbie wants is the money to which he is entitled.

Suck it up. Pay the man his money. Allow him to leave with the respect he deserves, in return for the service he has given the club.

Concentrate on the players you have now and keep building this great club for the future, as you are no doubt trying to. Twelve months goes by pretty quickly. By season 2018, the Tigers can be in a wonderful position.

Very interesting statement from Phil Gould. It is DISGRACEFUL **if** that statement is true

I really can't understand it. The tigers have always said they'll pay him his money.

Is this the ayoub media machine again twisting the facts as to why Robbie was dumped?

What do you mean if this statement is true? Im sure most people know that this is the situation?

Gould is just offering his opinion on what is happening. So Gould's conclusion is that this is just about the money.

I honestly am not 100% sure but here are the options:-

1\. Robbie is a vile person with a low character.
2\. He is overpaid and the club want his contract off the books.
3\. JT has no idea.

I don't think it is option 1\. That doesn't sit well with me.

So it is option 2 or 3\. If it is option 2 then paying him out doesn't help. It just means we pay him and get nothing for it. It it's option 3 then JT should be sacked.

I'd love to hear a rational argument stating anything differently but I don't think that is going to occur.

What is disturbing is that I don't think Ayoub has that much power to influence Phil Gould to state something like this publicly

It's not a good look for our beloved Tigers

It's highly possible Phil Gould might have an alternate agenda i.e. don't sign at the tigers, look what they are doing to a club legend. Sign with the Panthers (we'll treat you with respect and take care of you)

Just thinking outside the square

The statement is a true representation of the authors opinion. I seriously doubt that the WT coach or management have confided in Phil Gould about the matter.

I mean, if that is the only reason this situation is happening

It's funny how the panthers didn't just pay Jennings out a few years ago. I seem to remember him playing origin and reserves the same year.
Soward get a full pay out this year? He played a bit of reserves too.

Blind Freddy and seeing Freddy could see this was the issue, I think the Club has even stated that it was a cap problem. Farah is playing terrifically - completely unfair all this trouble.

Not the full amount to walk out the door. He asked for a release last year to walk and they refused.
They want someone to pay part of the contract but they also want a certain amount that clubs are not prepared to pay. So he and the club stay in limbo.

The smart thing would be to accept that and suck it up and use him.
Got nothing to do with Ayoib just another name people like to blame in this forum for this clubs dumb decisions.

Would not trust Gould as far as I could throw him. If we pay out Farah it comes off our cap so we can't sign ET. Probably Uncle Nick has been in Goulds ear about getting ET over to the Chooks!!!!

Seriously though, he is a 100% right, this has to be resolved NOW. We need closure and there has been way to much damage done for both parties to get back together. The cohesion thing is a load of rubbish

From what I can see, almost everyone agrees that RF is "playing terrifically". I agree with that observation as well.
The issue that the coach has is not individual performance but team dynamic. Is that player following coaching instructions for the benefit of the team as a whole? The coach thinks not.
If he's not playing in the way the coach wants him to, effectively **from the whole of team perspective** he is not playing well.
Repeated posts about how well RF is playing as an individual are a waste of time in that context, although it doesn't seem to stop anyone.

Very Hypocritical of Gus Gould.
As I've mentioned before he is a shrewd operator.
This is only to improve the Panthers position as the dominant team in the west.
None of his players have just been payed out.
Gus knows if we do this we can't keep the same side we've got or even if we manage to next year we can't improve our player ranks.
This will set us back a number of years.
In my opinion he is trying to force Justin Pascoe into making a move that will not benefit the tigers.

Whilst I agree it is getting beyond the joke, I cannot understand people can't accept that Robbie Farah is the first player to challenge the whole Salary Cap excuse and the system of shrewd retention and recruitment.
I doubt any club or coach in our position would be able to do anything otherwise.

Can anyone explain to me why the money that is so called owed to Robbie, which is totalling close to $400,000 over this year and next, (on the basis that everyone is saying Robbie is playing on 750,000 contract plus the money he's owed from earlier years) is required to be paid under this years salary cap and not able to be provided over later years through a job with the club?

Because the contract was registered with the NRL and deferral of payments like that would be cap rorting.

How does it have nothing to do with Ayoub? He's the one who made the whole thing public in the first place. These kinds of decisions get made by clubs from time to time. They don't have to be played out in public, but that's part of Ayoub's "service".

I'm sure i've heard of that happening, but maybe it might be a case when a player retires from the game as to moving on.

In regards to the contract I don't mean deferring his payments, restructuring his contract with NRL approval so that even if he is at another club we would be paying out the remainder over a couple of years as oppose to in one hit as part of the new club deal?
Is that not possible?

How is it you can have some players that are still paid by a number of clubs?

I was referring to Gould's opinion/statement in that article had nothing to do with Ayoub.

Yes they could restructure the remaining year of the contract over a number of years, but Farah would have to be on board with that and I doubt he's feeling particularly amicable about any of this.

Kevin Kingston, Tim Grant…

Gould knows why the situation has gone down the way it has. The same reason why he offloaded Jennings, Lewis and Gordon. Reparation of the errors of previous administrations.

Yeah probably not. Gould has his own reasons to cause trouble for this club and I haven't noticed him to be an Ayoub puppet in the past.
