Wests Tigers new coach for 2014 and beyond

Sheens signature is almost on the dotted line as our coach for 2012-13.

What happens after that ?.

I think he (Sheens) will have had enough by the end of his contract and will retire out to pasture (coaching director or whatever).

That brings up the question who is a good long term coach for the Wests Tigers ?.

The outstanding candidate is one who knocked back the job before Sheens was offered it…...
Craig Bellamy !!!!!!!!.

This guy is the most outstanding coach in the entire league bar none and by then he may well have had enough of the Storm and be looking for a new challenge.

By then I anticipate that the Wests Tigers will be not only one of the best performed sides in the comp but
also one of the better financial ones as well.

Our outstanding management will put us in that position and that gives us added credibility as well as having Harry to add his muscle (bank account) to the mix.

Bellamy would go down well with the playing group as well so no worries about Benji getting edgy after the Sheens era.

The situation would be very different to the earlier time when he knocked us back, we would have a great club status, playing group, mangement and a sound financial position.

What more could he want !!!

Sheens lives breathes and sleeps football I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to continue coaching.

Todd Payten - Head Coach
Assistant Coach - Brett Hodgson
Assistant Coach + Witches hats duty - Daniel Fitzhenry
Strength and Conditioning - John Skandalis

I remember once hearing Phil Gould say that the Tigers are about the only team he would consider coaching.

Anybody think Matty Johns could be a head coach?
He absolutely loves the Tigers and has gone alright in his halves coaching gig

You couldn't be any further from the truth. The man lives and breathes rugby league. When he's not coaching the Tigers and Australia, in his spare time he collects rugby league memorabilia and you think he'll walk away from coaching just like that??

Personally I hope he coaches us till his health allows him to and your suggestion for Craig Bellamy to coach us instead of Sheens makes me sick to the bottom parts of my stomach. The man didnt want anything to do with us when we were a basket case of a club and would now walk into one of the best clubs in the NRL after someone else did all the hard work for him to enjoy the fruits from that. Yes, Bellamy might be a fine coach but while I can still breathe I would never accept that man as our coach.

I agree, Chris. And keep in mind that everything Bellamy achieved at Melbourne he did with a club that cheated it's way to the top. Even now, they still benefit from the "The Big Three", who were initially attracted to the club with dirty money.

Look at what he did with the origin side. Nix.

The Tigers weren't good enough for Bellamy before so he can go jump in the Yarra for all I care.

I hope sheens keeps going as he brought us out of the poo, & bellamy turned his back on us. I hope he coaches us untill he says i have had enough & maybe someone like payten could be groomed by sheens.

BANG! Took the words right out of my mouth.

I saw Fitzy doing plenty of this last year… Maybe that was his Apprenticeship?

As to Payten, I'm not a fan of ex-players taking on the rains of thier old Club, unless they have had a minimum of 10 years away.

Peter Gentle seems to be coming along nicely, another 2 years under the Wizardry of Mr Sheen could see him take the next step?!

In all fairness the big three werent very big when they started at the storm. Slater was a complete unknown.

However, i am concerned with Bellamy's inability to get NSW to perform. I wonder if he could transform his formula at the storm to another club. I am not sure he could.

Way too early to discuss, more of a discussion for end of 2012\. Then you can start to eye the coaching talent. I would think there are much pressing topics to discuss than who is going to be coach in 2014 maybe like who will be captain in 2016.

Really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This.

They weren't the superstars that they are today. I believe Bellamy is a great coach who can get the best out of his roster, but his ability won't truly be known until he achieves the same dizzying heights with a legal team.

In regard to NSW, that gig is a poisoned chalice at the moment. And it looks like everyone is in for more of the same this year as it looks like ol' Sticky is going to use the General Melchett method made famous in Blackadder Goes Forth.

They've won one game in the last six, aided by the fact that game 3, 2009 the QLD were off their eggs on Stilnox cocktails

Agree and He will continue for a long time especially if he guides the Tigers to a premiership in the next 3 years.

Head coach isnt a cheapy job you hand out on sentimental reasons. Explayers even the great ones dont nessacarily make good Head coaches and especially straight up.

EG - Wally Lewis, Mal Maninga (I still dont rate him), Nathan Brown, Brad Fitler, Lockyer.

I like the 10 year plus comment in this thread.

Sheens as long as he has teams respect and he wants it.

Hard to replace such a professional as sheensy who has teams playing entertaining footy as they do just heard Wayne Bennett son in law ben ikin say wooloomooloo here we come tipping them to head to south sydney in 2012 .

What a load of none sense bellamy is an A class pretender

NSW Origin = 22% wins = Fail
Country origin = 33% wins - Fail
Mebourne storm = salary cap cheats = Fail

this subject doesnt justifuy any further comment
