The IC may allow the Feeder teams you have mentioned, if they can afford the travel, to remain their respective NRL sides feeder club .

It certainly won't mean the end of Newtown! Newtown tried to move into the MacArthur area (pre the Magpies Ashfield exodus) but wouldn't cop changing the team name to anything other than Newtown Jets.
As it stands Newtown won't be part of anything unless there are home games at Henson Park.

A new 2nd tier comp would be a toyota cup changed from u/20 to over 20yo (with same nrl teams) Jersey flegg reinstated for u/20 and ex nsw cup teams that are not a nrl team (norths, newtown etc) relegated to a revamped mostly sydney based bundy cup style comp.. Possibly the u/20 be realigned with 1st and 2nd grade but there big costs flying a 3rd level grade all over aus/nz and the issue of extra surface wear and tear on game days.

Leaving the NSW Cup and Qld cup to compete as stand alone competitions designed to represent the local district areas. This would probably see the combining of the NSW Cup with the Bundy cup and therefor the cost of entering sides in the NSW Cup would be considerably less and would allow teams like Wests, Norths, Balmain, Newtown etc etc to keep running around forever whilst still providing local opportunities for kids to play local rep footy.

Great idea but ultimately up to IC to implement by end of 2012\. Start with swapping toyota cup from u/20 to over 20 (cost wise and schedule wise should be relatively straight forward) then allow nsw cup teams to be a feeder side to anyone who cant cut jersey flegg or new reserve grade.

I agree with Galahs suggestion.
It would keep nearly everyone happy. What would be the comp featuring Norths, Wests, Newtown etc, would be of the same standard as what was A Grade park football 30 to 40 years ago. Alas.

The NRL could also sell the TV rights for the reserve grade comp and make a couple of bob which will help pay for it. I know I would certainly watch it on pay TV and I know all of my mates would as well.

I would of thought that Wests and Balmain would have to stand alone in such a revitalized Bundy Cup.
I for one wouldn't bother regularly watching what would be park football.

WT would fund first and 2nd grade only. As per the current arrangement wests and balmain would fund matts,sg ball and reintroduced flegg sides. It would be also up to balmain and wests if they wish to field a side in revamped bundy cup comp. WT wouldnt be funding the sides (just like WT havent funded NSW cup sides since 2000)

I floated this idea on the other forum but I've been thinking about this more and more.
Now we know we need to sign up the younger kids to ensure they get proper development programs etc, but we also know that too many of the Under20's are left out of pocket because they aren't on decent contracts and to be honest, many of them are just there making up the numbers.

So what if they have;

Each NRL team:
- Signs 50 players (Maximum)
- 25 players must be under 23
Top 25 players must be on a minimum salary of $60,000 per year
Bottom 25 players must be on a minimum of $30,000 per year
If a team signs its 50 player maximum that will cost them a minimum wage bill of $2.25 million dollars.
If every club has a salary cap of $6 million dollars, that leaves a total of $3.75 million dollars to spend on marque players salaries.
The NRL should then increase the payments to the games top players either by placing them on a separate NRL contract, or rewarding them with big bonuses for State of Origin and National Duty appearances.

Our foundation clubs live on in a sustainable competition.
Supporters get two quality games of football each NRL match day, not the U20s touch footy we currently get, and we can see all our players move up and down from 1st and Reserve as required.

I like that structure Galahs, and I definately agree on the NRL topping up Maquee Players… maybe a Top 50 Players under some rating system? This then would secure SOO players from both states and some others.

Like your idea Galahs , however I am hopeful that whatever extra money the clubs get for the new FTA deals are given out gradually and not in one big lump sum
For example they get an extra 900 k in 2013 ,say extra 600 k in 2014 ,and the rest in 2015 So the clubs don't overspend and get themselves in trouble in the future

EDIT: I've just realised that I probably haven't clarified myself enough. Each club should still get an equal amount, however the cap should be marginally increased so that the increased grant will help the likes of Cronulla, Manly et al cover their losses (I don't agree that they are holding the NRL to ransom, but this is a realistic scenario,) so clubs like ours, Brisbane and Canterbury will be able to stock the coffers.
My ideal scenario is that the NRL IC allows Manly, Cronulla and the like to hang around in their present state and give them a three-to-five year plan to start turning a dollar otherwise they will be forced to fold/merge/relocate. There's only so long they can hold the league back. Balmain and Wests sacrificed plenty, why can't others?
