**Wests Tigers prop eyes blue redemption**
**By Steve Jancetic AAP** Sun, 14 Mar 2010 16:09:57

Wests Tigers prop Keith Galloway will stake an early claim for the NSW jumper injury deprived him of last season when he lines up against the two men who benefited most from his absence against Manly on Monday night.

While all eyes will be on Tigers recruit Lote Tuqiri in his first game in the NRL in more than seven years, Galloway is desperate to grab some attention of his own.

The hulking red-head seemed destined to don the sky blue in last year's campaign following a strong start to the year before a knee injury put paid to any representative ambitions.

Instead Blues selectors turned to Brent Kite and Josh Perry for the State of Origin series - the Sea Eagles duo who will be doing their best to nullify Galloway at the Sydney Football Stadium on Monday night.

"They're very good and experienced props - it'll be a good test for me," Galloway said of the Manly engine room.

As for the disappointment of missing out on an Origin jumper, Galloway took it as a positive that he was even mentioned in selection circles and claimed his chances this year could be determined as much by the Tigers' form as his own.

"I just hope as a club that we're playing good football because if we're playing good football then the players stand out a bit more if you're in a winning side," Galloway said.

"There's a lot of guys in this side that are pushing for rep honours.

"It was disappointing not to be available to be chosen - I don't know if I was going to get chosen or not but it gave me a bit of confidence that I was in with a chance of making the team.

"This year fingers crossed no injuries happen and I'll play good football and hopefully the rewards come."

Galloway will join Tuqiri in playing his 100th game in the NRL on Monday night, the latter admitting earlier this week that he thought he'd never reach triple figures after switching to rugby union after the 2002 season.

A final decision on whether Tuqiri will take on the Sea Eagles will not be made until game day, with the dual international still finding his feet after returning to Australia from London on Wednesday.

Whether Tuqiri takes on the Sea Eagles or not, Galloway is adamant the 30-year-old will be a sensation in the gold, black and white.

"It's awesome - he's a great player, he's played for Australia in both codes - it's great for the club," Galloway said.

"I'm sure he's going to be unreal for us - I don't know if it will be this week or he'll take a few weeks to settle in for us but he'll be good for us one way or another."

Fire Up big Sauce.....

Galloway......I like the boy.....

Man I wish these players would just shut up about rep honors and put in consistent efforts for the tiges all year long.

If your playing at the right level consistently then you'll get the nod. Don't fall into the trap that Robbie did.

Your most important job is to get the Tigers to the finals….after all that's what your paid for...

If the Tigers are to win on Monday it will have to start with big KG and the rest of the pack laying the platform. I reckon Galloway will definitely be fired up against the Manly pack.

Yes it is of the utmost importance to play well for the team, but all players have an individual goal of making rep sides as it is the pinnacle or Rugby League. I don't think he is putting too much pressure on himself by declaring he will make the team but more so saying that if the team is playing well then it means the players are also stepping up and the natural progression is rep honours. Club form has seemed to mean little in the past as far as NSW selection has gone but if last year was anything to go by I think we are now entering a new phase where players are picked on form, which is a big leap forward from the last decade.

If Galloway continues his form from last year he has to be very high in the list of prop rotations for game 1 against QLD.

I think KG is our best forward but he is tall and struggles with body height in tackles sometimes. Has there been effort to bulk him up at all? Hope he makes NSW

Agree 100%
This talk irks me, before round 1 and players are talking about rep selection.
We really need to start walking the walk this season. i'm super tired of talk already, look what it's done for the Bunnies so far. But it looks like i've got more to put up with since Benji has his own column in the paper now.
Fantastic.

Ummm..stryker….it's the jurno writing an article...you think Big Keith rang him up and asked him to write how he wants to play Origin....

Galloway answered his questions....If you have another read....he talks is in relation to the Manly pack......

Geez...what do you want him to say.....I have no aspiration to play origin?

That a player in our club wants to aspire to that level consistantly is top stuff IMO.....

Fire up Sauce....

No Geo I don't think that but if I played for a side that constantly under-performed I'd be talking about my form helping the side make finals not earning me riches.

Every year people on here cry because we have no representation at SOO time….I wonder why that is?????

Baby steps for christs sake...none of them have played consistent enough footy to warrant selection IMO....Get that right and the rest will follow.

And thats what hes talking about:

….however the rep games occur before finals time

Its up to Big Keith to play well, and this year be lucky enough to have no major injuries.
all he can, and all we would hope for is that he performs well.
the rest will fall into place.

I have no problem with players having aspirations for Origin and making those aspirations heard. If the form is good enough to earn origin selection, than that form is obviously also helping the team win games…Keith does not have to spell that fact out for us.

A ranga no more….a whitehead now apparently.
Maybe we can call him zit...from a long distance of course.
Go Kilo..rip in

Keith was good though I have seen him play much better. He played more than 40 minutes tonight as well. He covered King and Kite but not Rose in my opinion.

bit hard to stand out tonight when manly have big boopers coming one after the other…. i thought he had a solid game for round one.... our pack done enough to help benji find room out wide.... couldnt ask for more, we fought till the end.
