Wests Tigers release Rob Lui

Peter Wallace would be my number one target! The clowns in "the know" for NSW don't even look at him now after he played with something like a ruptured testicle a few years back? He is very solid, can kick and can tackle! Would be a perfect fit for our team?

Peter Wallace is only 26, experienced enough to mentor Miller (if he is our long term option? i have my doubts!) and get Moltzen to fullback in 2013 after a cameo at half in 2012?

Unless he is found guilty, how does this help the Tigers? they do the 'right' thing and release him for what appears to be serious off-field dramas, only for the volchers to come along and swoop him. A couple yrs down the line, if he turns his life around, and turns into the superstar he is capable of, its not going to be an advantage for the Tigers is it

Grn4life, It isn't about whether he is found guilty or not. I argued on another thread that we shouldn't sack him for the conviction. However, releasing him to the Cowboys is a compasionate decision which is putting Lui and his families welfare first.

So, you're right that Lui is a big loss and that it is disappointing it didn't work out at the Tigers. But, he clearly had a lot of problems living in Sydney and being closer to his family is an excellent move by the club.

Sometimes the right decision involves making sacrifices and I think this is one of those decisions. So, no matter what Lui does from here the club made the right decision by the player and his family and that is to be applauded.

I would like to see the club hand Miller the #7 jumper for 2012…The sooner the better, so the kid can commence the pre-season knowing that the #7 is his!.,,,Then I say leave him in the #7 for at least 6 weeks...to prove that he is up to NRL standard....that is all I expect from him...to demonstrate in 6 weeks that he has the goods to be a competent #7 in the NRL....If he is out of his league after 6 weeks then we look at other options such as Moltzen or outside...

Only problem with that Alex… If after 6 weeks he IS out of his league, You have wasted 6 weeks!!
Then you have to find another Combination.... Could end up wasting half the season!!

Unfortunately, batboy, the only way to find out if someone is up to NRL standard is to play them in an NRL team. The only way to find out, if a combination will work in the NRL is to play the combination in the NRL.
If there was a way to measure the worth of an up-and-coming player without playing them under the conditions, I would think that clubs would have come up with the method by now.

I think Moltzen is a terrific player, I think the back end of the season we saw his ability.

This year, not only was he returning from a knee reco, difficult in itself for the first 15 rounds he played a different position each week.

The only place I see Moltz get bagged is on this site.

Most league people I chat with rate him highly.

Maybe they want you to influence the Tigers to keep him or their team may suffer the same fate as St. Geroge?

I don't think an orford signing would be that bad.. Sure he has done nothing of any value at the raiders, in reality who does he have around him?

I bet if we were up by 6 with 10 mins to go in our own half he would say " no benji give it to me and I'll kick it. I don't think it would be wise to run on the last"

I hear what your saying, but it still sucks that we have to suffer because of it

Tedesco will be playing fullback in 2013 as long as he is re-signed beyond next season.

Theres a strong chance that Orford will end up at Souths

Surely Maguire will bring Brett Finch back before he takes Orford?

Yeah, I think South's have little chance of picking up Orford. They have a pretty good few junior options in the halves, like us.

Where are you getting your info GNR4LIFE? Is it just a guesstimate?

Why don't we try and pinch Finch or don't we have enough $$$'s left in the cap

He is contracted to Wigan and he doesn't have any get out clauses in his contract mate.

I think the money Wigan would ask to release him would make it unfeasible.

I would have been happy to pickup Finch on the cheap in 2009 when he left Eels, just as a short term solution.

Damn cheating scum from Victoria made that impossible.

I notice no-one has mentioned Tom Humble as a possible halfback for 2012\. I think Moltz really started to shine at fullback at the end of last year, even his kick returns improved, and I think we really need to leave him in one spot.

But with Miller apparently out of form in the 20's at the end of the season could humble be given a go in the 7? or is he more of a fullback?

As for Lui, I am not sad to see him go. Apart from the off-field stuff we will be a 6-10 point-a-game better defensive team without him in the side. If we can find someone that can pass the ball to benji we shouldn't have a problem in attack either.

Having said that rob could mature into a devastating attacking player in partnership with thurston, but i just think he was a bad fit for us, considering our achilles heal has always been defence.
