Wests Tigers reviews games at Campelltown

20k! Where are we going to find 20k?

Haha, lads until we get consistent results and a few problems in the home camp sorted I can't see us pulling 20k.

Small crowds in a small stadium can have atomosphere. Small crowds in a huge stadium have very little atomosphere. ….and those big stadiums sure as s*** don't feel like our home grounds. Leichardt and Campbo ooze black, white and gold.

I agree with you Benny …. I've never agreed with the soft option of going to neutral stadiums. It's nothing more than management admitting to the fans they can't manage the club in the format that was agreed to by both sets of members back in 1999\. It's a grab for cash the easy way. Management don't have to do anything. It doesn't matter if no one turns up .... They get the guaranteed gate either way. It's a short term fix .... But whether it fixes the longer term remains to be seen.

Unfortunately money guarantees our future more than sentiment does though. Will be a very sad day when WT no longer play at LO and Cambo, we will have sold away our soul and plenty of tradition.
Money is the bottom line though, we can't survive without it but we will still survive even if we don't play at LO or Cambo. It is the sad reality unfortunately.

we got 18k in 2010\. in 2-3 years we should be aiming for 20k averages, the NRL as a whole should, given the push for memberships and crowds they're making right now and the fact we will probably be playing more at ANZ and will not be coming 2nd last (i hope)

I hope so mate.
In the short term I agree with you but longer term it gets a bit hazy. My question is what do we represent ? If we don't represent our old heartlands what do we represent ? Most of us go for a club because it either represents our local area or has done in the past. Playing at neutral stadiums will eventually result in a loss of identity. There's nothing to differentiate us from other clubs who also use neutral stadiums.

I don't agree with the direction WT are taking either Knuckles in that they are seemingly starting to shift away from LO or Cambo.
But it is unfortunately just the nature of pro sport where teams will trade history and tradition for money in order to survive. They will represent an area in name only and go where the cash is.

It will get to the stage where WT will just rely on the loyalty of supporters, many of who will still harbour fond memories of their team, from their area, that will support that team in whatever form it survives in.

Yes I know … It's a sign of the times.
But what happens if the Stadiums decided after a few years they don't want us any more. We might be left in the lurch. I don't know .... It just goes against the grain somehow. Doesn't feel right. Feels like putting a band aid on a skin cancer .... Just hides up the problem lurking under the surface but it never really goes away.

The cyclical nature of sport sees teams go thru highs and lows…unfortunately bums on seats equals $$$$, but the lows dont equal bums on seats....just because we got 18-20 a few years ago phyre means little.....weve had major upheaval in the joint, a mass cleanout...if people didnt expect a few lean years then they really dont know too much.

As for what do we represent?
Well.....tribalism died a long time ago and the team that represented me moved a long time ago - 1987- hid the problems lurking under the surface....that team and this one hasnt represented me and many others ever since, I just continue to support them, even though there is no connection for me to where theyre based...but its a smaller world now so they say, so we just gotta suck that up

It just seems easy fix…

If from the very top of the organisation, we had our tish together, professional and accountable from top to bottom, board members to ball boys, then we wouldnt be in the position we are in financially nor on the park.

Selling out seems like a cop out... but entirely understandable considering the predicament the circus has put us in.

You've got a connection from the past the same as me. If I was just starting out now I don't know who I'd go for …. No one seems to represent me at all. There's enough Wests in the Wests Tigers to give me an interest now but what about the next generation .... Where's there connection ?

Sad but true mate …. May have to look at it if there was no such thing as Stadium funding We'd probably be out the back door.

Footy clubs were once run on raffles not so long ago.

Big business now, sponsorships, corporations….pissy suburban grounds dont come close.

Weve never owned our grounds....what were we supposed to do, build our own?

Its evolution

40 years ago walking along a worn dirt path to ur patch of grass on the hill was 'normal' at the footy....so was taking 2 doz cans in and smoking as well

Everything changes...romanticised nostalgia doesnt pay the bills

Ink is right , won't be too long before Leichardt and Campbelltown become our "Field of Dreams"

I have no issues with leichardt and Campbeltown being given the occasional heritage rounds but I think for the club going forwards we need to play out of the big stadiums.

I think Inks wrong …. Stadium funding is only a short term fix. We need to stand on our own two feet and represent the people that come to watch us play and the kids that aspire to play for us. We are Wests Tigers .... Not ANZ Tigers.

What if we do become successful and leichardt and Campbeltown are no longer big enough to support our growth ? Then the management will increase ticket prices and all of a sudden you will be death riding them again.

Going to big stadiums is THE ONLY FIX. Not short term not long term
