Wests Tigers will return to Tamworth for the third year in a row after confirmation of the fixture in the 2020 NRL Draw.

Having taken a game to Scully Park in each of the last two seasons, Wests Tigers will once again take rugby league to the country with a clash against the Canberra Raiders confirmed for Round 9 on Saturday, May 9 (5:30pm kickoff).

Wests Tigers turned Tamworth in to #OurJungle last year with a week-long celebration of rugby league leading in to the game and will once again provide a number of activities leading in to the game to celebrate the match.

Wests Tigers will once again have a special Membership available for the game, with General Admission and Reserved tickets to go on sale in the coming weeks.

Michael Maguire's side scored an impressive come-from-behind win over the Gold Coast Titans last year and will be determined to produce another strong effort against a team expected to be one of the top sides in 2020.

We going to make some money out of it this time?

Real money would be nice

Not having 14 home grounds every season might help

You need to get in quick with your accomodation. I tried to get a room at Wests Leagues Mecure next to the ground as soon as the draw was released and it was booked out. Apparently there is a big line dancing festival on as well that weekend........

Tigers chief executive officer Justin Pascoe said he was confident next year's game "could be the biggest yet" for Tamworth.

"This is our third year playing in Tamworth and we are really committed to this area," Pascoe told the Leader.

"As a club, we think it's a big part of our responsibility to make sure we can influence communities like Tamworth really positively.

"I think next year will be bursting, I think people will be clambering to get in."

Pascoe will meet with Tamworth Regional Council representatives on Friday to discuss the club's economic impact on the region.

During the first two years of its involvement in the Tamworth region, the club has helped pump, on average, between $1.7 and $1.8 million into the local economy.

"The numbers we have say to us that it is really beneficial economically," Pascoe said.

"From what I understand, there was over 4000 people who travelled into the Tamworth region to attend last year's game.

"For us to be able to generate that sort of influx of money into a community, which is clearly being impacted by drought, is outstanding."

Have your say, send a letter to the editor.

As well as playing a game for NRL points, the Tigers and the Raiders will be actively involved with the community in the days leading up to the game.

"Much like this year, we will be running things like an all-abilities clinic, a school blitz and an open training session for the public," Pascoe said.

"For the first time ever, with the support of KARI, an indigenous support organisation, we've got an indigenous clinic and trial pathway, which will lead to a camp we host in Sydney.

"That's aimed at bringing juniors in and giving them an opportunity to come through an elite pathway."

Pascoe said he was confident the relationship between the Tigers and the Tamworth region would continue in the future.

"We're in a commercial agreement at the moment and we are in discussions to see if that can continue past 2020," he said.

"Those conversations will be had with [Wests Entertainment Group CEO] Rod Lang and the council."

As for whether star player Latrell Mitchell would be among the Tigers' players to grace Scully Park next year, Pascoe said anything was possible.

"Like all teams we are always looking at complimenting what is really talented squad at the moment," he said.

"We've just had some great news throughout the course of the week with the resignings of Luke Garner and Alex Twal, and the signing of Tommy Talau, who Benji Marshall came out and touted as the best talent seen since Teddy [James Tedesco].

"We're always on the look out for new talent to compliment that and certainly he [Mitchell] is a talented player that we, as our chairman said earlier this week, we are in the market for."

Cant wait have travelled dow to the first 2 games - havent been to a ground where your close to the action and its so much fun

@matchball The less said about this adventure the better... total waste of time taking away a home game from your main supporter base and by all accounts not for much money and really nothing else !

@WT2K Boon, where did you travel from?

What a joke - why don't we call ourselves the Gypsies and play in a different country town every week of the season. Make a lot of money - players get a lot of different types of TPAs:smirk: . Country folk get to barrack for the team playing against us as is usually the case. Lots of free to air TV. Home ground problem solved.

I’ve been to the two games in Tamworth. It’s a very good weekend. Well worth the trip. We have good support there.

Ironically the ground can only hold 12000 people and its a tight squeeze at that.
so I don't know if the venture is about making money from attendance figures.
but I do know that every pub in the west and north west has a footy tipping competition and wests tigers is a popular team to support.
Aberdeen tigers ,in newcastle territory, actually use the wests tigers logo.
so from a marketing perspective maintaining a link with the country areas is advantageous.

Totally disagree with you on this subject snake...Sydney doesn’t have or own the monopoly on these teams the fans do of which a vast majority live in Northern New South Wales...And It’s about the NRL allowed the clubs to travel into these regional areas.

Well said @eyewondertwo: I placed a positive comment on here 22 days ago re Us playing at Tamworth, but at that stage no one was interested.

I'm really pleased to see the positive comments now, as Us playing there can only be good for Our Club in not only gaining new members and fans, but helping to popularise and grow Rugby League.

Congratulations to Wests Tigers for taking a pro-active stance with this:santa: :v:
