Wests Tigers team for Round 1

Side looks ok to me.Matt Utai must have shown Coach Sheens he is capable of getting back into NRL form to be in the side. However he can put on a try from previous times…Looking fordward to this

I'm looking forward to seeing how Utai goes in this up against his old club. Haven't seen him play this year so will hold judgement until a couple of weeks in. All the best to him.

If he gives him the standard 5 to 10 mins that he usually gives the 17th player then all its gonna do is **delay Moltzons return to form.**

I been trying to say that for a long time.

I hate the idea of changing halfbacks throughout a game

I actually quite like that idea, maybe give Benji some rest as well. i fear if he can pull up another 27 games in a season.

Harsh move by Sheens.

So do you think Moltzen should have been playing State Cup these next couple of week? coz thats what I want TBH to speed up his return to form. But people have suggested State Cup and first grade are miles different even thought I have argued in the past that Moltzen needs confidence and form will come once he gets to first grade whether off the bench or halfback.

Yeh i do believe he should be playing State Cup. Im not sure people realise how hard it is to come back from a knee reconstuction. Now im certainly no Tim Moltzen, but ive had 2 reconstructions and the first few games are very hard and your just trying to get through them. Your mind is racing, your out of breath, and your main focus is yourself, not your team. But like i said, im no Tim Moltzen, and if he can come back well through the NRL then that would be great.

 just  Moltzen is fine…..

If he is fit he plays simple.......sorry sirro...but that is funny... I'm no Tim Moltzen...

Naming Utai seems a bit odd seeing as Daniela, Brown and Latu are all playing for BRET.
I wonder what Mitch Brown has to do to secure a fg spot.
He was solid at the back end of last year. Ah well the comp is won in round 1

Utai probably has more mongrel in him than the other wingers.
just hoping there are not alot of high kicks sent his way

Good team…a little worried about Utai but will give it the benefit of doubt this week and see how he goes. Will be a tough match. The bulldogs look good despite a couple unknowns. Barba will be very dangerous at the back

big ask there ….
.... bombs away on his side all night long...

A strong WTs team, which will be needed against canterbury, like most people I will be interested in how Sheens plays Utai, as for Brown, amybe he is being eased back in Bret after injury or perhaps there is a discipline issue.

Being an ex canterbury player they're gonna know his weaknesses. After seeing him spill a bomb in one of the trials im not exactly filled with confidence.
Might just maybe hold off bagging him until ive seen him play though

As read out by Sheens:

1\. McKinnon
2\. Tuqiri
3\. Ayshford
4\. Lawrence
5\. Utai
6\. Marshall
7\. Lui
13\. Heighington
12\. Ellis
11\. Fulton
10\. Galloway
9\. Farah ©
8\. Gibbs
-------------
14\. Moltzen
15\. Dwyer
16\. Fifita
17\. Payten

As expected with the exception of Utai, I know B. Ryan is injured and you're all saying Mitch Brown should of been selected over Matty but I'd defo have Geoff Daniela in there.
He's the same size or thereabouts as Utai & a way better player.
Tzzzt.
Will be interested to see how Moltz goes though.
We should win this easy!

Should do the Dogs in fairly easily….

Yes we should. But, I just hope Benji eases himself into the game and takes care of himself, when a blokes confidence drops they can become suseptable to injury, so I hope het gets a feel of the game early. With UTAI, his demise came about with the introduction of Kevin Moore to the Dogs. That's why I think Folkes has an affinity with him. Folkes would have given the green light in regards to UTAI's fitness now compared to say 2003-4 when he was killing them in the NRL.
I find it hard to believe some of our forwards will be fit. Maybe Fonz just wants to run them in first . So I am not sure if we will start firing at 100 miles an hour.

I am excited though. I hope Ayshford has been practicing his passing to UTAI though as he is quite a bit shorter than other wingers that have been outside him.

I think we should give Utai a chance before we bag him. Looking at Mitch Brown's career with Cronulla and Wests Tigers it appears he can't cement an NRL spot which must be due to a reason. Could be an issue with his attitude at training? Fitness level? I prefer Brown at full back rather than winger. Woods could be considered unlikely not to make his debut but looking at the forwards ahead of him he will have to wait for an injury or someone to lose form. Moltzen in my opinion will be eased back with time at full back and by round 5 will be first choice full back with Brown on the bench. Barba needs to be contained at the back. Go Wests Tigers.

MY opinions on the strength of the side, and curiosity over how Utai will go have been covered by others and well. Just wanted to comment cos I didn't realise how excited I was the season was about to start until I read the team sheet. It's been a long, long summer. Go Wests Tigers!

Word is that Wade needs a massive first few weeks to hold his spot in the first 17\. Brown is firmly in Sheens plans. Sheens likes the thought of giving Brown a shot at fullback and Moltzen at halfback in the first few weeks.

When Farah is on NSW duty don't be surprised to see,
9\. Lui
7\. Moltzen
6\. Marshall

Anyway, injuries will guide us down a path, whether it will be a good one or a bad one I'm not too sure.

I certainly hope that is the case Bug. As we saw last year Brown grew in confidence and form when given a decent shot and he went well at fullback. He's got speed and size on his side over McKinnon. The support play isn't there yet, but I'm sure he's working on it.
